Pros

- People you work with in Singapore office are generally pleasant - Product you work on does help people. It doesnt help people the best, but it does help.

Cons

I want to stress cons here are only relevant for regional expansions teams in Singapore. There are other teams not suffering from these problems, they are pretty ok, not FAANG ok but ok for the tier Wise is in. - Your work is highly derivative. Product and engineering leadership in this office do not believe in building/owning anything new, nor do they believe in localising the product better. As a result, a large portion of your work revolves around adapting something built explicitly for Europe (but said to be "generic") to Asian market. It is simply very boring work on archaic tech stack. - Your hours can be very long. Something is constantly on fire and your regular workload isnt exactly light already. I found myself constantly shifting gear from 120% to 150%, never getting a break. You need to work with a lot of people in EU timezone on services you do not own to get anything done and they will not accommodate you. The result is a lot of compulsory work in your evening. In the entirety of the company (which is not bad frankly for engineers), you will find regional expansions team's long hour vs uninspiring work produces the worst payoff for your perf and learning.

Pros

Trips twice a year for summer and winter days Health benefits: low cost/free

Cons

Low salary in the U.S due to lack of research for employees within the U.S There seems to be a lot of favortitism with employees in Estonia Micro-management/spying on employees Unable to receive constructive criticism senior management & subordinate, primarily in Estonia Lack of knowledge/experience, training within this field Plenty of miscommunication with its Tampa office in regards to updates on procedures Treat Tampa employees as clueless employees Having to conduct our own research in order to ask for a raise and never be given one, after multiple attempts Compliance team on-boarding clients despite the questionable activity conducted by business/individual With its current AML/EDD procedures in place, company is prone to on-board clients that are might be conducting illegal activities Compliance department (Chargeback, Verifications, AML/EDD, Fraud) are perceived not as important roles as Customer Service. Empty promises Tampa Salaries: C.S - $14 per hr, but after a year receive a $2.00 increase hourly Verifications aka On-boarding KYC/AML- $17 per hour Ops: $20 per hour but after a year, you also receive a $2.00 increase hourly The only department that has asked for a raised, provided documentation as reason for the raise multiple times and has yet to receive an actual raise is Verfications.

Pros

- Interesting product space with lots of challenges and opportunities for strategic thinking - Smart and motivated people

Cons

- Management constantly touts "autonomy" as a key value but in reality, they don't want to help reports succeed or be involved in their work. There isn't any management training, so managers are left to their own devices on how they want to judge your work without actually offering any support. - Since going public, a lot more scrutiny on proving impact, to the point where it's become common for several team members to get PIPS or worse, be let go without any opportunity to act on feedback. If you're not ready to grind, this isn't the right place for you. - Hard to get promoted without really fighting for it

Hello, thanks so much for taking the time to write this review. We appreciate you highlighting your experience with management. Lead training and support is something our People Development team is constantly working on and improving — we'll definitely take your thoughts into account. Navigating autonomous teams can definitely be tricky, and we're always doing our best to get it right. Hopefully you were able to speak to your former lead before you left Wise, but if not, we'd be happy to have a confidential conversation with you — just email us et employerbrand@wise.com. Best wishes, Karolina
