Pros

Due to the rapid growth, the work environment is pretty entrepreneural. There's no shortage of things that need to get done and ways to plug in. The clients are among the most well respected names in their industries. Tons of new people starting every week (may also be a con). Fun office culture where employees really walk the talk.

Cons

Relatively little organization around some important things you would think a company of this size and age had figured out by now. Everyone is incredibly busy and may not care too much arbor helping others, you really need to pull someone aside to get help. Certain job roles have no clear next step in advancement.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad that you've found your work challenging and engaging, enjoyed working with some of the top brands in the world, and experienced Medallians walking the talk. All great stuff. You're right, we have a lot of people joining. Let's do our best to welcome them while we still have the chance. Soon they'll be the veterans! Thanks for calling out some of our challenge areas. It is true our processes and procedures are not where you'd expect given our age and size. That is due to a combination of us bootstrapping -- and therefore being very lean -- for the first decade of our existence and us growing so fast. We're working on remedying any organizational gaps as quickly as possible. If there are particular changes you think would be beneficial, please suggest them. Also, I'd love to know which jobs you don't think have clear paths of advancement. We hire people with enormous potential so we want to see them flourish, not tread water. With regard to leadership remaining approachable as we grow, thank you for calling out the success of our CFO and GC in doing just that. I will let Mike and Alan know. I take your comments as a gentle reminder to myself to host more dine arounds. If you don't know about them, they're 10-person dinners put on by 1-2 operating team members. The dinners are fabulous for getting to know not only the leadership but also Medallians from different departments. If you have other suggestions, please let us know. And please come say ""hi"" at happy hour - Amy.

Thanks for the heartwarming feedback, especially the part about the "best working environment." In terms of the food not being as good as you thought, I was curious about what you meant by "good" -- healthy? tasty? really-bad-for-you-but-tasty? (in that latter category, my particular weaknesses are Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks' peppermint mocha frappuccinos, and any french fries). If you don't think the food is healthy enough, please let me know. We pride ourselves on providing food without trans-fats, corn syrup, or artificial ingredients. When possible, we also try to supply organic. If you don't think the food is tasty enough, please let our Ambiance and Environment team know. They're always working to help Medallians feel it home. If, on the other hand, it's the "really-bad-for-you-but-tasty" foods you're missing (like sodas and protein bars, which are just candy bars masquerading as nutritious), you'll have to bring them from home or enjoy them on the special occasions when we do supply them. I like the bad stuff, too, but we don't want to make them staples because they're just plain bad for you. If you're not convinced, may I suggest you read the book Sugar, Fat, Salt, which is on our bookshelves in the office. It's a sobering account of what Americans consume that will make the fresh cut fruit in our kitchen look particularly appealing -- at least until the next junk food craving hits ; ) Thank you again for your feedback and support - Amy

Culture, Mission and Growth

Pros

The people and culture for sure! Love that culture here means a lot more than happy hours, lunches, snax, coffee (though we have all that & a beer club to boot), it has several measurable pillars that are woven into the interview process and reviews once you are on board. Weekly Leadership Q&A's are well attended and field honest, direct and transparent discussion. The mission and vision for Medallia make it very rewarding to be a part of...still feels like a scrappy start up building up to take off. Get aboard the rocket ship! Oh and did I mention the week long onboarding they invest in each employee? Without giving too much away, be prepared for a very personal and deep experience unlike any other onboarding you have (or will have) experienced.

Cons

Perks, though when you think of it what is more important free food everyday or being a part of a strong culture

Thanks for the feedback, the GREAT description of our culture, and keeping the secret of onboarding. You are right about perks -- we will never out-perk Google. It's funny, though. In the 1000s of interviews I've done over the years, I often ask people where they liked working the most and why. In all those years, I have never had anyone say the reason they liked a job was the perks. What people consistently value is great relationships with colleagues, a sense of purpose in what they're doing, and the feeling of having real impact -- all things we strive for at Medallia. When perks come up, it's often associated -- counterintuitively -- with where people like working least. Why? Because sometimes people stay in places they don't like because the perks are too good. Bottom line: I couldn't agree with you more -- our perks are less than those offered by the giants in the Valley and that maybe that's not such a bad thing in the end. Thanks for your suggestion of increasing corporate communications. If you have specific ideas, could you please share them with the marketing department? They are working on an internal communications plan and would welcome your feedback. Thanks again! -Amy
