Pros

If you're fairly new to large tech deals this role will help give you the experience needed to go somewhere else. My suggestion is to cut your teeth here and take what you've learned to an organization that can deliver.

Cons

CenturyLink is the epitome of what's wrong with large telecom/IT organizations. They're not limber, they hire the wrong senior leadership (they in turn hire the wrong middle management and so on), they de-incentivize their employees at just about every opportunity, no one understands how compensation works (not even those who work in the comp dept), they have annual layoffs like clockwork (right before the holidays), they manage to take a broken comp structure and make it even worse every January, the list goes on...

Pros

Work life balance is good, because there is no work and free cab if you are in shift. If you are damn lazy to move even your butt, and you just want salary (forget about the word hike); Then this is the paradise for you. Welcome to CTL :P

Cons

Technical: - Mundane work, nothing to learn - If you are in support, very little work..that too during release/deployment, which comes once in blue moon and other days, resolve the alarms with predefined solutions/commands. - If you are in development, no work at all. Come, sit, go for tea, lunch, break and leave for the day. Support personnel has good knowledge than few developers in CTL. But yes, there are some good developers too (very rare). - No learning curve, you'll forget everything as the days progress. When you leave CTL, you'll become dumb. - So many stupid and useless meetings which is absolutely to pass the time. - You can't learn anything from your lead, instead you'll forget everything if you start interacting with them. - what can you learn from a third rated lead from a second rated team Salary: - Except monthly salary not even a single rupee will be paid in terms of benefits/perks - Probably this is the only product based company which not even pay for your medical insurance. Those buggers will deduct medical insurance premium from employee's salary that too 12k per year for 2,00,000. - They'll deduct 500 from you for life insurance. - If your rating is neutral(3/5), you'll get maximum of 4%. Whereas Bangalore house owners asks for an yearly 10% hike in rent. - They have money to acquire multiple companies but don't have money to pay employees. - No shift allowance (whatever shift it may..morning, evening, weekend) - You'll be given the bonus only if you are in the payroll when they roll out the bonus payout. Even though the rating is announced in January, you'll not get in next month..you have to wait till April. If you resign even in March, they'll give you only ghanta. - people who stayed even for 5 yrs didn't get any growth and they are still s/w or sr. s/w engineer. Your salary won't cross 7Lakh P.A even if you are exp. more than 5. Infrastructure: - pantry stinks like garbage, the facility team are lazy to clean the dustbins. - for entire floor (about for 500 employees) there's only one pantry which can accommodate hardly 10 people at a time and only one coffee day machine. - Here comes the best facility: for the entire floor they have only 4 toilets, whenever you go..you may need to wait in queue. - You will face internet unavailability(outage) often and they blame on employees for this dabba internet as if everyone downloads GBs of data with torrent. The admins can't even think that with I.E you won't be able to do so. In fact, they allow only I.E to use inside office and you can't use any other browsers. HR and Finance: - These are the most jobless people in CTL, they are only meant for sending mailers - No employee friendly policies, everything is defined to defend themselves (employer) - I don't know what HR and finance team will do for the whole day, they won't even reply for your queries even if you follow up for weeks/months.

Unethical Manager

Pros

Big company Good leave policy

Cons

I am working with Lumen, I am writing on a thing I happened to see to my fellow colleague. She is pregnant, and she is in 8th month now, her fluid level dropped, and doctor advised her foe medication by getting admitted. My manager is so adamant that she wont allow my colleague avail early leave along with her maternity. My manager is telling that my colleague is cooking up story and is asking for leave to spend time off. This is really unethical from a manager working in Lumen. My colleague fears that her job might be at risk and she might get blacklisted. How much stress she has to undergo at 8th month pregnancy with complications! I really hope Lumen will take action on the manager. Anonymously posting so that I dont get caught and lose my job.
