Pros

Good work life balance. Benefits are ok.

Cons

Where to start. I was in management and upper management and HR are a joke. They don’t allow fair reviews, force you to give people an unfair 9 block rating just to fit into their % goals therefor preventing employees from getting the STI’s they deserve. No one listens and everyone just does what’s been done for 20+ years. They’ve let go the people who had years of knowledge and the rest are left to figure it out when no documentation exists. I would not go back and work here ever. You think people have your back but they will turn from you in a heartbeat. It’s gone from a family to a place where you constantly have to worry about about security and wages as they no long give raises but spew you can get a raise with a good performance. The best performance never gets a raise because it’s not in the budget. Ever. Run, don’t walk away from this company.

Pros

Benefits are pretty good, but not Silicon Valley level C-Suite (mostly from Level 3 merger) are impressive, have strong vision for the company, and have acknowledged internal dissonance

Cons

(I know this is a frankly brutal review and I want to make it clear I'm not an outlier, bitter about pay or performance reviews. I'm in sales and was one of the top performers in my region last year.) -Level 3 Acquisition is still far from finished, 18 months in (despite OpEx savings, internal processes are extremely fragmented and while C-Levels acknowledge it and claim they're improving, there is no end in sight) -Stock is down 50% over last 12 months and is creating extreme pressure to perform, which management is turning into a toxic culture (note "management" not "leadership" as outside of the C-Suite, I see few real leaders in the organization) -No fresh blood, all management is promoted from within, and existing management is recycled into different organizations to maintain "tribal knowledge" (results in "this is the way it's always been done") -Lack of accountability throughout the organization -Not a great strategy as industry evolves (no real 5G plan)

Pros

WFH was a nice perk. My team was amazing

Cons

Pretty much everything..... first off let me tell you I am NOT a disgruntled ex-employee! Layoffs about every 8 months, you never knew if today was your day. Morale was in the dumps. Everything was a huge secret, some on my team didnt have access to systems to do their jobs, pay scale was a HUGE secret, could not get a copy so we knew where we were. Although it didnt happen to me, management was REQUIRED to give someone on their team a "needs improvement" at review time regardless if deserved or not (this info was given directly to me from mgmt). At CTL you're just a number. Dont expect to have any clue about anything going on (you'll be lucky to have access to systems and enough info to do your job). They bought Level 3 and the leadership of L3 took over (seems odd that CTL takes on all their debt and then allows that leadership to take over - writing on the wall)! The 4000 layoffs in 18 months were all on the CTL side of the house. Unless you're "teachers pet" dont expect opportunities to move regardless of your contributions to the team or company. CTL is a sinking ship, look elsewhere unless you're desperate.
