Pros

- Free access to a range of attractions in the UK such as Kew Gardens, Kensington Palace, Tower of London, etc. - Discounted cinema tickets - Flexible working hours

Cons

- Pay is not as good as other retailers for equivalent positions. There is nothing prestigious about working for John Lewis anymore if the pay is higher at all the major supermarkets and not much higher than Primark. - Loss of benefits in the last couple years: no bonus, no free food at work during peak period. - Unorganised all across the business from the stores all the way up to head office. Many systems or ways of doing things are just inefficient and don’t make sense. No wonder M&S is performing a lot better. - Treatment is unequal and depends on your relationship with management, e.g. some will get holiday requests approved when asked and others won’t, some able to get away with less effort while others are taken advantage of.

Underpaid stressful job

Pros

A few nice colleagues and ok cafeteria

Cons

Bullying, useless management who don’t care about you, long painful days at minimum wage and if a customer is rude/ aggressive to you (John Lewis attracts a lot of horrible entitled customers) you are always in the wrong since they are customers and the manager is never around if you need any help and when they did come down to help out on the rare occasion she couldn’t even do it herself. The whole place is a joke , better off working somewhere else. A lot of the times I was on a till on my own with a line of annoyed people.

Pros

Discount, great colleagues, great products

Cons

The 'partners' are treated like cattle, they have taken away what was great about shopping at John Lewis for the customer which was having knowledgeable staff in their own area of expertise. Management have destroyed a great British institution leaving demoralised staff as a result of trying to be like all other retailers. They have basically 'killed the golden goose'.
