Pros

The fact the name looks good on your CV so you can get out! I'd say partner discount, however there are so many rules and regulations around this, and you are so underpaid, even with discount you can't afford to shop there!

Cons

The mid level management are patronising and cliquey, offering 10p bags of haribo for getting good customer feedback, and printed out gold stars for performance like the staff are children. The company don't care an ounce about its 'partners', refusing the raise the minimum wage they pay business wide, hiking up prices in their 'subsidised' canteens - 45p for an apple?! They refuse to give any time off to partners during November and January as a part of peak lockdown - but they will send you home unpaid on slow days like christmas eve so they don't have to pay you! They even threatened their call centre staff that if they didn't do overtime on Black Friday, it would affect their Annual Reviews (which has a direct knock on affect to any kind of individual pay rise). As for their pay rises, they are done individually and based on performance, or how they actually do it - based on the managers personal preference of the individual employee! It also doesn't matter how much work you do, I got paid CSA wage for doing my managers job for them. They only offer progression to the managements favourites, regardless of the work you've put in. For a'partnership', JL is the most unfair place I've worked, and moreover, they don't even give you a reference for when you leave - just a confirmation from H.O that you worked there between XX date and XX date.

Pros

- Up to £695 of free clothing per year (limited brands) in personal stylist/ home design stylist roles - Some of the people are decent (but most have jumped ship) - Sometimes free lunches over Christmas - Free fruit?

Cons

- No HR team - Zero support for disabled/neurodivergent individuals - Any attempt at diversity and inclusion is performative at best and at worst down right toxic - Zero career progression - Will work you into the ground for insultingly little pay - No incentive to go above and beyond as the reward for underperforming staff is the same as outstanding staff - No work life balance - Most staff facilities are 'broken' (or purposefully switched off to save money under the guise of 'broken'), including coffee machines, lifts, escalators, work phones, shredders, microwaves etc etc - A totalitarian approach to sickness - Management is SHOCKING - Total disregard for talent retention - Will do a 180 degree turn on strategy so often and poorly it'll give you whiplash - If you experience any kind of sexual harassment it will not be taken seriously. - This place made me so stressed and mentally unwell that I started loosing hair, had multiple burnout episodes, and required therapy. 6 months out and it's like I was never mentally ill.

Not the best place to work

Pros

Some of my colleagues are friendly and I've built long term friendships.

Cons

Well where can I start. I've worked at John Lewis in various roles since just before I went to university. Personal issues have prevented me leaving though now I'm actively looking for new opportunities outside JL. The place is horrible I'll sum up below. Poor management. Bad hours. Many bad colleagues who stab you in the back and try to get you in trouble. Bad low salary No pay rise No help from team mates and managers are useless Terrible bonus I would prefer no bonus than the constant lies about why it keeps getting reduced IT was 6% this year how much lower can it get? To sum up I advice people to not be taken in by the public image of John Lewis as a great place to work trust ME it isn't.
