Pros

Wonder is a really unique service, there's plenty of work to go around, and researchers are really friendly. Overall it's a good work at home job, but there are cons lately. I actually have no grievances with the reviewers. They're making sure that the research that goes out is up to a certain standard, which is what makes Wonder so valuable. Clients know that the research they're getting is high quality, reliable, and up-to-date. As long as you produce good research, then there’s nothing to be worried about.

Cons

The questions have gotten extremely difficult, unrealistic, and obscure. They're supposed to take 2 or 3 hours, but they take much longer because clients take advantage and submit questions with multiple parts. There's no way you could make $10 an hour. Maybe once in a while, but not consistently. I've been working for almost 8 months, so it's not like I'm just getting the hang of it. Things have changed A LOT. Questions used to be really general back then and I don't mind that they've gotten much more business focused, but lately they’ve been ridiculous. Also, pay has gone up for new researchers but down for experienced ones, which is really discouraging and has caused a lot of seasoned researchers to quit. I’m not sure if this is intentional and they’re trying to constantly get researchers who will work for less, but that’s why I’m rating it lower than I would have a few months ago. Finally, clients need to understand that they are paying for RESEARCH. Although I would say most people have college degrees, Wonder is not a replacement for an analyst and researchers can’t predict the future. Some clients simply refuse to accept that some information doesn’t exist or their request is too niche for Wonder to answer.

Thanks for the feedback; it's really helpful. We're working to keep growing a community of researchers who love answering questions on Wonder and keep coming back, and we keep rolling out more income opportunities for top researchers, not less. We're also building more tools to help researchers get their work done faster and more tools for clients to help them ask appropriately-sized requests. Happy to discuss the details, just drop us a line at research@askwonder.com

Pros

They do what they say they will do. You get to write reponses and if you follow the guidelines, you get paid. The community is very friendly and helpful. You can always log in and get to work. Always plenty of jobs to choose from. For a select talented few who either have access to high powered tools or have training and backgrounds that allow them to uncover data not accessable to your average person, it can be a good -but not great- gig.

Cons

Clients and research reviewers are unrealistic about their expectations. Clients routinely request complicated research that takes a substantial time investment by the researcher. They're not simply looking for general answers easily found with a quick google search. They're looking for a "deep dive" of the subject and expect a thorough, insightful response. For example: "What is the market size for people in the US who want to build a startup company that makes a product they dont know how to create and cant pay someone to create it?" Im not saying that question isnt answerable. Im just wondering how much time you think it would take to research the data and write a 500+ word response to it? You're not going to be able to bs youre way through it. Consider that the MOST you can make for a response right now is $36. Also consider that the only way a request becomes worth $36 is if it sits on the board for 2 days. Which means nobody wants to answer it or they are unable. The list of requests to choose from is riddled with questions maybe not so ridiculous as that, but either pretry ridiculous or very complicated nonetheless. Wonder is well aware of this conundrum, by the way. It seems their business model is to rely on a continual stream of new talent who are willing to grab "gigs" and invest a lot of time researching topics in order to secure their spot. I ber most figure out after a handful of jobs that the time required to produce a quality response isnt worth the pay. I know I did.

Thanks for the feedback - we want new researchers to have a great experience and stick with Wonder long-term, so understanding where there's dissatisfaction helps us improve the platform for everyone. Wonder responses typically take 1-3 hours, but there is a learning curve for new researchers. That's why we created 'Wonder for Beginners' (a 10-minute crash course on the Wonder platform), and why we have senior researchers sharing their favorite resources and databases each day, and why we ask reviewers to provide guidance and feedback on the drafts they read. As a result, researchers get a lot faster over time. If you have any other thoughts on this, I'd love to hear more - you can reach me at research@askwonder.com
