Great after the learning curve

Pros

-Because you are paid per project, if you focus and stick with it, your payrate is on par with your abliity. -Likewise,You aren't going to get rich, but you really can make a decent amount of money doing this and you can do it from any location. Its a great way to support travel! -If you are a lifelong learner with a deep level of curiosity, you are getting paid to hang out online and learn about random topics. Working for Wonder has made me an expert on so many random topics! -Both the administrative staff and the research team as a whole are very positive and helpful, and you actually feel connected to real humans who all support each other- that can be rare with online work. -Self scheduling allows for travel and flexibility, and you can take time off at will. -The admin team takes your feedback seriously, and is always upgrading the platform to create a more supportive work environment for the research team

Cons

-The going is slow when you first start- research feels hard, and it can be overwhelming and feel like you'll never make any money. -There is a pretty steep learning curve (but the team is supportive and if you ask, the veteran researchers are super helpful). -Waiting on your work to get reviewed can be obnoxious- as it often takes a long time and you feel stuck to your computer after you've finished working while you wait to get your work approved.

I find it difficult to think of any.

These guys are a bunch of crooks. Low pay, revolving door of new employees and here today, gone tomorrow company.

I prefer to Subaru over Volvo, but that's neither here nor there ;^) Look - Wonder's not for everyone. We have an incredible community of people who love to learn - students, professors, retirees, expats, stay-at-home-parents, journalists, military spouses, and more - who choose to use Wonder to earn money on a flexible schedule doing something intellectually engaging. Not everyone likes working remotely, or doing research, and that's fine. But if you do want to give it another shot or discuss your experience in greater detail, I'd be happy to set up a time to talk --> send me an email at research@askwonder.com

Total bait and switch

Pros

They do a lot of lip service to flexible work, but don't back it up with money or other benefits. The basic idea behind Wonder sounds good, although it doesn't really hold up.

Cons

I researched a lot of work-at-home, flexible job opportunities. Wonder was on several of them, promising various high hourly rates. (Warning sign--when the same Wonder staffer is saying different things on different sites, something's fishy!) I actually lost a lot of respect for the sites that hosted all of Wonder's false claims--clearly Wonder is sponsoring the posts and the bloggers are not looking into it or trying it personally. It seems like they are paying for some of these Glassdoor reviews as well--there's no way anyone who has had to try to write a response to an unanswerable question while clicking a countdown clock, then have their work rejected by a reviewer and submitted by someone else, would ever write a glowing review thanking management for paying them less than minimum wage. I hope someday some former customers and/or employees get together for a class action lawsuit. You all know what happened to Angie's List, right?

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I will address your points here, and if you have any follow-up questions please drop us a line at research@askwonder.com. As with almost all freelance sites, hourly wages vary based on multiple factors. In our case, the complexity of the project is a primary consideration (i.e. more complex = higher wage). Due to the unique nature of each project, we can't and don't make "promises" on wages. Another factor is the learning curve that new researchers have upon joining Wonder. Once a researcher has made it through our trial period (a quality control measure), they qualify for higher-paying jobs. As researchers continue to produce excellent work for our clients, they continue to have attractive money-making opportunities opened up to them on the platform. We receive positive feedback from the members of our research community on a daily basis (many experienced researchers who are making attractive wages as well as some of the new ones who are working their way up the ranks) and would certainly never pay for a positive review! Bottom line - we are constantly working hard to improve the researcher experience, incorporating researcher feedback and releasing new tools to aid the research process on a weekly basis. Your feedback will be incorporated as well. Thanks again.
