Pros

Reasonable company to work with

Cons

Unfortunately a lot of redundancies occur, every 1.5 yrs reorganisation occur and more than 25% staff in the affected area is made redundant. Redundant package is rubbish it sticks to government minimum redundant package, which is really not fair

Pros

Coworkers are highly intelligent and enjoyable to work with and be around. No day is ever the same as the next. Company offers countless training programs and opportunities to grow as an employee. Unlike many other companies in the industry, Skanska offers straight time pay for weekend work. If you need to leave earlier for a doctors appointment, management is typically fine with it. Most job site offer free lunch or pizza Fridays. Benefits are pretty good, stock options are fairly good, bonus' each year are not bad with the exception of this current year. Company offers five sick days, two personal days and two weeks of vacation each year.

Cons

Where to begin...Company offers five days of sick time each year which sounds great, but you are looked down upon for taking a sick day or for using all your sick days through the year. There is an incredible amount of favoritism shown to specific employee's. If you have gone to Villanova, you are guarantied to be everyone's star employee. There is no overtime offered period and on any given day, you don't know if you'll leave on time or four hours late. There is no such thing as a 40 hour week. You will be looked down on for working an eight hour day. You're lucky if you can work a day that is ten hours long. Say goodbye to your social life, family life or hobbies because you'll be marrying your job. Zero work/life balance period. Don't expect to be off for holiday's because why would you be? Union employees are treated far better than field office staff. Union employees are paid far better than the person that went to school/graduated college with a degree in engineering. There are countless job site that could be a 20 minute commute from your house, but this company will make sure you are at least a two hour commute from your house. Corporate preaches a care for the safety of their employees, but in reality, they only care that the men are no hurt so they can save money on injuries. Also, make sure your work phone is on and on you at home to answer phone calls and emails at 10:00pm or on weekends when you are spending time with your family. If you want a job when you are never not working, have a low salary, no life, get four hours of sleep at night, high stress, never see family, have after work meetings that are from 4:00pm to possibly 8:00pm, work a minimum or 10-12 hours a day and are completely miserable then this is the job for you.
