Pros

The benefits that is offered by Pratt's bigger parent, UTC allows working engineers to obtain a M.S degree while still working on the job. Pratt has a collegian environment even if it is a big company, people are divided into much smaller groups where the manager in your immediate group is led by a technical manager. So the end-result is that, groups are very focused on the core technology. The company tries to be as transparent and accommodating to its employees. There are Jr. engineers who start and lead multidisciplinary projects. Advancement for engineers come quickly for those who want to stay on either the technical side or the management side.

Cons

Pratt & Whitney is a huge company, so expect the internal company politics that comes with the territory. Like all other UTC companies, employees are expected to drink the UTC-ACE, 6-S koolaid (read: many motivational speaking conferences). It might be frustrating at times to deal with volumes of bureaucracy and paperwork to push your idea through, if you are the self-starter type.

Pros

None if you are looking for long-term employment. All our jobs are slowly being shipped overseas to India or Puerto Rico.

Cons

They revised our pension so it doesn't accrue the same and new employees only get lump sums (pitiful ones). Our health plan is not what it used to be and our copays go up constantly and they cover less every year. P&W has partnered with a company in Puerto Rico and with the way they are sending jobs there, it appears as though the plan is to slowly move all the work there....after we train them, of course. A company run by non-Americans that doesn't care about the U.S. Corporate greed at it's best!
