Pros

Pratt and Whitney is a great place to work for the following reasons: PW tends to be very involved in the community supporting organizations such as United Way and sponsoring events such as the Hartford marathon. PW offers many opportunities to provide professional development for its employees. Hosting many Lunch and Learns about a variety of topics, hosting inhouse courses on job specific technical products, providing access to outside sources for courses, and paying for all these courses. PW provides an atmosphere that gives its employees the feeling that the company cares for them by offering workplace events, providing high safety standards, and excellent welfare programs.

Cons

Some downsides to PW is that it is inherently bureaucratic because of its size and reach. Its hard to see the big picture starting out because you are expected to follow "desk procedures" and in some instances it is easy to get wrapped up or stuck in your specific job and not see the importance or how it affects others down the line. It is very hard to get in touch with the right people for the right questions. Although there is a company directory and acouple intranet websites to help there isn't a easy way to get in touch with people who may handle the specific questions you have.

Pros

Good benefits such as free tuition for college and competitive health benefits, excellent opportunities to travel around the world, working for a large company and seeing the best technology and how a large company operates. It is also an exciting scientific and technical arena for development. They have a devotion to producing the best product the best way. Also ethical standards and diversity of workplace. Excellent learning & development opportunities.

Cons

Senior management out of touch and confused about emerging trends and think old, promotions somewhat political, a "do as I say not as I do" management attitude, very slow to progress within the company (unless in a leadership program or tagged), management will push you to work as many hours as possible, cliques within the organization hinder advancement, different groups have hard time working together, supervisors vary greatly with quality and work expectations

Pros

Stability , education opportunities, technical challange. Support for work life balance , but you have to keep the balance. Opportunities to work almost anywhere in the world if you want to go abroad. Very committed to the engineering staff and education system, bith internal and external. Many opprotunities , but you have to be self motivated, uch like an extension of the college days , they provide the system and opportunity , but you have to drive the system and make it work for you.

Cons

Corporate culture, one of 1,000 in your type position.
