Pros

Good compensation for a barista job

Cons

They will never view you as human. A coworker of mine was forced to quit after being assaulted due to missing shifts from their injury, even with proof of the crime. After my store reported sexual harassment from a higher up, we’ve experienced nothing but retaliation and bullying over the last two years. Our hours are cut, write ups for half the team, and we’ve been labeled as a “problem store” when we have a great inviting energy and great customer reviews. The area lead is known for blowing up on people and physically harming others on the line. And if you complain or associate yourself with someone who complains, you can kiss any promotion or raise goodbye. A store lead even said that they chose a male shift lead outside hire over a barista with years of experience because he “has a child and that made him more responsible”. Isn’t that some kind of discrimination? If you’re not apart of their cult like following and you don’t kiss up to the area leads or store leads, you’re treated like garbage.

Pros

Great people work there, flexible hours, free coffee, laid back dress code, very accepting and open to everyone from different backgrounds.

Cons

Horrible upper management, requests for help ignored by management, innappropriate store lead who was biased against younger employees, over hiring on staff so hours are reduced to next to none, no benefits offered because hours didn't qualify (which were cut due to over hiring). When Corporate shifted leaders the business went from a laid back place to work focused on making lasting connections with customers and clients to a time oriented order system not very different from places like Starbucks or Peet's. You will be exhausted by each shift, underpaid, and treated poorly by most customers if a drink is even 1 minute late.

Pros

- You’ll meet some great people

Cons

- They only care about making money and do not care about the customer anymore - They’ll allow the inside of store to be up to 100 degrees (yes, ONE HUNDRED) before they decide to close early. How is that safe for customers and employees? You need to make money that badly? Everyone is screwed when the air conditioning breaks because Philz uses the cheapest labor possible.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about your experience at Philz. We take team member safety very seriously and will close a store if it gets too hot and stays above 85 degrees. If you wish, we welcome additional feedback on the store location and what happened so we can look into this further. You can reach us at HR@philzcoffee.com.
