Pros

Coworkers and regulars made the day-to-day bearable. Free to express yourself in your dress and relatively laid back atmosphere, usually.

Cons

Upper management clueless about their staff - even the ones who have been there for years through all the changes and have earned Philz the reputation the Jaber family reaps so much profit from today. I'm talking don't even know some of their oldest employee's names. Falling over themselves to expand as quickly as possible while still trying to maintain a small, family-run, San Francisco roots facade. Usually companies that tout the San Francisco mindset treat their employees well and are proud of that fact. Philz is overlooking its most important asset - the people who wake up at 4:30 a.m. to make those amazing cups of coffee all day. Compensation? Benefits? We didn't even get a Christmas party. It's ok for six months until you realize there is no room for growth and not a sliver of recognition for any of your work. You're better off at Starbucks, good coffee or not.

Pros

Growing company with strong values and an a great mission. Excellent team members from the Barista to the home office team. Brand is growing both in reputation and as a great place to work.

Cons

Like all growing companies Philz is experiencing some slight growing pains. Company's biggest challenge in the coming year that it will need to focus on retaining top talent. Philz currently lacks any kind long term employee investment. No stock options. 401K, profit sharing and benefits that are not as competitive as other companies.

Pros

- Amazing coworkers - Amazing coffee - Usually good store vibe - When the times are good, they are real good

Cons

- No opportunity to rise up the company ladder in any real way - Of all the employees I knew that were baristas over 3 years working there, I know only 1 barista who ever made it past the Team Lead position to become a Store Lead - Most Store Lead's and any position higher than that are hired from outside the company. It is cheaper to hire new people because the longer you work with the company the more they pay. Because of this they try to find ways to get veteran employees to leave the company and always try to keep fresh hires coming in. - If you have a bad Store Leader just leave, they will stay in their position no matter what you do. -They require employees to do more work than they are scheduled time to complete in a timely manner. -Always under staffed to try to maximize profits with a constant push to try to get employees to work harder and faster rather than supplying the store with adequate man hours. - It goes on and on...
