Pep Boys is a rudderless ship, work here at your own peril.
Pros
Pay is actually not bad in manager, director and VP levels. Directors and above are provided reimbursement of medical expense not covered by insurance. Bonuses have been paid despite poor sales performance.
Cons
Senior level executives are poorer than average. There have had 4 CEOs in the last four years. The caliber of the CEO's are equal to Director level executives at other companies. Current CEO is over is head and it shows in the declining comp store sales month after month. Customer service has been below average and getting worse as store level employees become disenchanted with the wage freeze that has been on for three years. Layoffs have occurred every year for the last three and everyone is coping with doing more with less. You have many long term associates in the corporate office have a post office mentality. Change is frowned upon. Benefits are terrible as most have a pay as you go plan with a 1500 deductible/threshold. 401 is no longer matched and if you are considered a highly compensated employee you end up getting back most of your 401 contribution.
