Pros

Opendoor started as a great place to work just before they went public a few years ago. When Opendoor first needed people after the post pandemic housing boom, management showed care for its employees. Then everything changed, for the worst, dramatically. free snacks

Cons

For the Sales and Support department, if you work hard and earn a promotion with more pay, you will likely be laid off in the next house market correct in cost cutting measures by management. Don't believe the one team one dream core value, many people that grew the start-up with 4, 5 + yeas of tenure were laid off while other new employees were kept. Your tenure with the company means very little. There was an entire sales department with close to 100 reps and over 95% have been there only 2 years or less. Top performers and dedicated people that worked incredibly hard were laid off with no real reason and while keeping some of the newest people. No real focus from management to level up or promote.

Stay Away - Toxic Environment

Pros

The company has good intentions to disrupt the real estate industry

Cons

Leadership team is oblivious. They think that all they have to do is throw money to people to hire them or get them to stay. What they don't realize is that money doesn't solve for a toxic company culture, lack of leadership values, strategy or direction, and subpar technology. Employees are burned out, overworked and underpaid. Also doesn't matter if you have more experience than your manager, they will hire you below them and pay you less. Very little promotion opportunity. We are asked to take surveys to gauge how we feel about the company and our job. Results clearly show that employees are NOT happy. They pretend to do busy work to improve this but it never goes anywhere. Employees are also pressured to write positive reviews so the company can make it on lists like Best Places to Work. It's all a fake facade.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us this feedback. We use this information to improve processes and elevate employee experiences. We do ask our team members to provide feedback through surveys throughout the year from both Opendoor and 3rd party companies to ensure we are getting honest responses. We try to make it clear that all surveys are anonymous and that we expect real feedback even if it's not positive. If you have questions about any surveys in the future, feel free to reach out to your manager or the People Team.
