Pros

Great people, freedom in work/personal life, ability to learn how to run your own business. New York Life has a very large number of successful Agents and the industry's largest number of MDRT Agents.

Cons

I am concerned about the future of the life insurance industry because there is not enough mentoring of new Agents at New York Life and other companies. Everyone shares the blame on this one.

Pros

The company is generous with vacation time. The conservative nature allows the company to hold its ground in rough markets.

Cons

Tendency to disregard and not reward the talent of long time employees. Many have found that the best way to get a raise decent raise in the company is to leave for another job and then come back.

Pros

The company recently obtained the number one position on the World's Most Admired Company list and it is a fiscally responsible organization, dedicated to maintaining private ownership.

Cons

Despite the highly touted introduction of "Executive Development" and "Diversity and Inclusion" programs, the company is not a good choice for entry or mid-level employees (read, non-executive). Anyone who expresses any desire or initiative to grow in their role is told "if you want to make more money, you'll have to go to another company" and "be happy you have a job right now" even though it's the dedication, loyalty, and hard work of lower level employees that has made the company what it is. Very demoralizing place to be right now. Very few employees are given the opportunity to be on a career track, no matter the talent, creativity or initiative displayed.
