Pros

It's a nice place to browse the web all day. There is a refrigerator full of beer. Great place to code kluges.

Cons

Coming from a true startup, I joined realizing the company would be slow moving but the system we've built defies all attempts at progress. If you want to build stuff, rather than add another klugy work around that keeps things running, you are advised to stay away. Former Oracle people are taking over in a bad way.

Posted on behalf of Juan Pablo Dellarroquelle - VP, Engineering: Thanks for your review – it’s clear that you have not found nor, been able to create, the environment you were seeking in coming here. I am truly sorry. Building something great takes time, dedication and, more than anything else, ownership. I am extremely proud of how we embrace all of our engineers for what they bring to the table, their commitment to working hard and their willingness and courage to change the environment around them no matter their accent, skin color, or their prior place of employment. I believe that when we bring our whole selves to work we can create the best possible outcomes. When it comes to what we build and how we build it, it is hard to understand what “staying away” means or why you’re advised to do so, I welcome the opportunity to learn more about it, if you care to share with me. Regarding vanity, there’s nothing I worry more about than taking ourselves too seriously, losing perspective, or becoming full of ourselves. So I ask you, please do stop by and chat with me. I sit in the open space, just like everyone else. Sincerely, Juan

Pros

Formerly great company that has been run into the ground. Mental health day each quarter is the only real positive. The mission is great, there’s just zero investment or buy in to actually achieve it. Lots of great colleagues that I’ve met here but most have left or been pushed out

Cons

Compensation falling behind industry standard. PE overloads only care about short term profit. Layoffs regularly. Clueless leadership. CEO with a couple buzzwords but complete lack of vision. Massively unstable with burnt out Product, PS, Engineering, etc. Plus they steal back your vested RSUs for $0 when you leave or if you’re fired. Toxic environment that cares more about pretend DEIB values than actual employee well being There are few things more annoying than claiming “transparency” while failing to provide it. Steer clear if you want to be around competent leadership and avoid politics. Lack of sales and skyrocketing churn confirm company direction

Pros

Great place to learn how to survive in a technology company. You'll deal with periods of crisis, stability, growth, and pretty much everything you would expect from working in tech. On top of that, the people (well most of them), are terrific people to be around both inside and outside of work. Since no one really knows what's going on half the time you will have the opportunity to carve out of your own career path. Barrier to entry for a lot of positions is low, as long as you are not a complete fool and can play the politics. Gathering feedback, advising companies on how to better treat their customers, and developing the software to power it all isn't exactly MENSA level work.

Cons

Tribalism is pretty evident at Medallia. While not necessarily bad (i.e. your immediate teams will be very close and effective) this breeds behavior that makes people political which makes certain tasks stupidly difficult to accomplish (e.g. getting staffing for a project). Unfortunately, this also makes the company a breeding ground for weasels and sycophants. Diversity is lauded at Medallia - unless you have any inkling conservative leanings. If you're a conservative you may experience some micro-aggression (e.g. "wow, for a conservative you don't have that gun-toting, gay hating image), but nothing that will make you phone the ACLU. Just come into the office, do good work, and then go home to read Drudge Report. Finally there's a shocking dirth of emotionally aware, competent managers all the way up to the C-suite. If you want to survive here, learn to manage upwards and nod your head in approval.
