Favoritism, Lack of Structure, and a Toxic Work Environment

Pros

Long term contract and possibilities to travel

Cons

Management operates on a "favorites" basis: if they like you, you stay; if not, you're out. There's no structure or team strategy, no interaction with colleagues, and no sharing of ideas or updates on tasks and targets. Asking questions or showing initiative isn't rewarded. Employees have no empowerment; every decision, from writing an email to scheduling a meeting, must be checked with the manager, who often has an outdated calendar. Emails go unanswered, leaving you idle for days waiting for responses or feedback. It's acceptable for employees to do nothing, but any personal appointments or needs are met with comments and complaints. When expressing a desire to take on more work, the feedback received is often negative, questioning your commitment. People are treated based on preferences rather than skills, leading to gossip and exclusion. Many in higher positions lack relevant experience, with most having worked in customer service on cruise ships or similar roles. Overall, it's a very toxic environment. I was told that work from home is not allowed and that everyone is expected to be in the office all days of the week. However, this rule is inconsistently applied, as some people are able to work from home when they want or need to. Additionally, there are limited opportunities for meaningful training. The available platform only offers very basic courses on topics like stress management and time management, with nothing on more advanced subjects like negotiations or sustainability that could enhance job-specific skills.
