Pros

Free MBTA pass, which just started in September. Before that, there is the pension.

Cons

Abusive culture, staff members overload support staff with excessive work, with no opportunity for promotions. Low pay, 2% raise, expensive parking, expensive food. Staff members are protected, no matter how bad they treat you

Pros

I love, love, love, my current department! I have been at MIT for almost 6 years and have spent the last ~5 years in this DLC. I feel valued and trusted. There is flexibility to my job that is great for work-life balance. I also love the opportunity to work on institute-wide matters not just within my own department.

Cons

My first year here was sink or swim. I am glad I finally found a department that treats their people with respect.

Pros

Rigorous training, smart people, the brand name. Can be quite unfriendly, competitive and cliquey. In some departments your well being completely depends on successfully ingratiating yourself various people.

Cons

Can be difficult to maintain work-life balance. Expected to produce excellent results yet appear as if making no effort at all.
