Interesting but needs serious improvement

Pros

Great PTO and flexible work environment; you can work from home or while traveling as needed.

Cons

Expect to work with 80s-era technology. Also highly bureaucratic work environment with dictations from HQ overseas, making it difficult and frustrating to try to get anything done. Lots of functions have been outsourced to India and are a detriment to the business.

Mismanagement

Pros

Good starting salary and learning ground for shipping.

Cons

Opportunity to progress is very narrow and those who are getting promoted are the ones who do not know the work and not doing anything. Management in the cluster do not see the value of the people from the countries within their jurisdiction as they only listen to the country/department managers eventhough the department managers are the ones who are violating the core values of the company. People are being hired without aptitude test just because the manager who brings them in are either related to them or their friends. Too much politics and bureaucracy. Systems are very complicated and sometimes do not work. Working environment is very frustrating. System of performance appraisal, salary increase and bonus sucks.

Nepotism, consultant driven, different treatment of people, rough environment

Pros

Part of a conglomerate (still) Access to benefits from the Maersk Group Probably easier to move between Maersk companies than if joining from outside Flexibility in working hours (location dependent)

Cons

Nepotism is extreme! Most if not all senior jobs are filled without posting them, internal rotation is based on relationships and size of elbows. Consultants Deloitte and Accenture are handing jobs to each other - once one gets in, they will pass on other Maersk Oil jobs to the other. Totally confused senior management. Changing priorities on regular basis, depending on which consultant is telling the management to do something else today.
