Pros

- most colleagues are great people - fair wage - good benefits - good opportunity to get into crypto industry

Cons

- so slooooowwww to get anything done - a weird horizontal hierarchy which means approval process is complicated and blocks progress - so slow to add new app features which means they lag behind competitors - management are confused about GTM strategy so they make pricey decisions which don’t always make sense - some managers are very transfixed on their own teams KPIs meaning there isn’t a joined up approach to help the business grow as a whole - some managers have their personal opinions on what will work and won’t consider other opinions meaning opportunities get wasted - if you’re passionate about what you do, you’ll get frustrated with how nothing actually gets done - the best people leave when they realise all this

Pros

Working in the Cape Town office is great, the perks are awesome (catered lunches Monday to Thursday, in office masseuse), as an Engineer, I feel that the engineering management listens to me and is on my side when it comes to some of the things I list as cons, and do what they can to work towards making things better (like pushing for remote when C level management is against it). The company is often happy to sponsor community events (employees sometimes host meetups in the office). Salaries are competitive for South Africa and promotions usually happen when they should. Work is not measured by how long you spend in the office.

Cons

(take these in the context of my overall positive rating) The Cape Town office is bursting at the seams, the aggressive hiring means that most months seem to have a dozen new people and there is no plan in place (or at least not one that's been shared even after repeated asking) except try fit more people into the open office plan, which was noisy enough to begin with (even reducing desk size on the other floor, to fit more people in). The C level executives are strongly opposed to remote work, to the point of forcing employees to come in during SONA (a day most tech companies in Cape town encourage their employees to work remotely due to traffic) because there was a company all-hands presentation (which paradoxically was given mostly by people not in Cape town). Some budgets don't seem to be growing as fast as the company is. C level executives mostly based in London these days, feels like they're disconnected from the majority of the company that sits in Cape Town, don't experience the issues in the Cape Town office in their brief visits.

Pros

BitX is a modern company. Considering the company is less than 5 years of age, the corporate culture is exceptionally well-defined and instilled in a rapidly growing team. As a youthful company in the very new and unpredictable industry of digital currency, BitX does well to avoid unnecessary bureaucratic structures. For the Bitcoin fans out there, one could almost say there's an element of decentralisation, as in the blockchain, within BitX itself. The objective is to stay as agile, lean and limber as possible. Working here, you won't have a $500 bonsai tree on your desk but you can pitch an idea directly to executive management without making an appointment and, if it's a decent one, they'll let you run with it. It's natural that a company experiencing explosive growth will face a unique set of challenges, but the simple fact that a Glassdoor account was created and recommended to employees serves as proof that BitX not only sincerely covets its people and their morale, but acknowledges that there is something valuable to be learned from every member of the team. Overall, it's enriching to be surrounded by highly intelligent people, motivated by a noble cause, in a comfortable environment. BitX looks to have all the right ingredients to achieve its goals and with a little elbow grease, its employees can achieve theirs too.

Cons

The free lunch we get daily sometimes has too much veggies in it. :(
