Pros

Had good people at first, was a great opportunity new space to learn in and great experience added to my own career.

Cons

Feel like but a number unless the “colour” is right, no one appreciates the extra you put in and always frowned upon for going up against one person that seems to have no skill but seduction 🙄

Thank you for your feedback - I’m sorry that we didn’t meet your expectations in the end. We try really hard to make Luno a place where everyone can learn and grow - hopefully you experienced some of that in the time you spent with us. We will continue to work hard to ensure we make it a great place to work for everyone. Also feel free to send some of your feedback and suggestions directly to me if you haven’t already discussed it with someone in the company before you left, I’d love to know what we can do better. Excellent place to learn, with a few teething issues

Pros

- great people to work with - high growth - good work/life balance - interesting product developments - great place to learn - good culture - fun work environment

Cons

- no medical aid - no share offering - no choice to be paid in BTC (the actual product) Senior management seems to be blinded by some people who have been working there for a long time. There is hard evidence pointing to a bad seed and a toxic employee, but because of the relationship they have the ceo, it makes voicing it awkward and hard to do. Especially because the person is in HR.

Hi there, Marcus here. Thanks for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. Appreciate the positive comments, hope we can build on that for others too. Noted on the medical and shares points - as discussed at the last all hands the main issue is that we do actually pay everyone in kind for medical, so no-one should be out of pocket here, and we are working on giving people the option to join a company-wide scheme, but again the financial impact shouldn't be different either way. Interesting point about the BTC - we've had some requests for this in the past. The reason we don't pay in BTC is not because we don't want to / can't, it's because in most countries it's not clear how to declare it for tax in one's personal capacity, so we don't want people to have to deal with individual tax issues. Over time as we work with various tax authorities and regulators we hope to get some more clarity here, not just for Lunauts but also the wider public. On the point about senior management being blinded, I would contest that, but I am very happy to discuss this with you in more detail if you want to. There have been cases where people are not the right people to grow with the organisation and almost without exception this has been dealt with - although I will admit sometimes a bit slower than what some people would prefer. But it's not that there is no awareness of it, it's more just how one practically deals with it. It's also important to balance bringing new new people with upskilling existing people, and we hope that most of the time we get it right. re a specific person with a relationship with me that gets treated different, I know who you are alluding to here and I would recommend that you speak to me to get more context as I can assure you that I don't and have never let a personal relationship be put over whether someone is the best person for the job - not at Luno or anywhere else - and if you look at our track record and a broad sample size you will see this is true. In fact, it's one of the things I'd say we pride ourselves on. When there are instances where this appears to not be the case, there are often some context or nuances that everyone might not be aware of, and so the best is just to ask me for more information / discuss your concerns, there is nothing to hide here. That all said, when you scale these things do get tricky and there is a lot of noise, so we try our best to do everything at the right speed and in the right way. Thanks again for both the positive and constructive feedback, I can assure you we're working hard on all these things to make things better for everyone. Marcus

Pros

Competitive salary/work lunch. Great place to work at if you're in any other department besides customer service.

Cons

Following the recent hiring of managers/department heads with a background in call centre operations, what once was a company that saw you as a human being, now sees you as metrics such as SLA and CPH. The customer service department which I feel is the most hardworking department and really the foundation of this company has been overlooked and neglected. The department is experiencing increased work loads due to retrenchments. This resulting in limited access to benefits other departments experience like team building activities and company parties often due to the emphasis on NPT and how there is none. More specialised teams are being compelled to manage queues beyond their designated responsibilities because of insufficient staffing levels. The encroachment of micromanagement practices in our department has significantly dimished the motivation to go above and beyond for Luno, work force members with huge egos treating the people in the department like children who do not know how to do their jobs. This department will continue to lose people either externally or internally as people cannot wait to jump ship.
