Pros

The snacks and food from the test kitchen are okay... and some of the people are a pleasure to work with. That’s about it.

Cons

Do not work here (especially if you’re lower level)! HelloFresh wants to pretend like they have a fun, innovative culture (maybe the international and/or non-NYC offices do), but from where I stand it’s all a facade. The only “healthy” work environments here are HR and MAYBE Finance, but if you’re not working for those teams, RUN! The stress that you’ll endure here just isn’t worth it. The majority of middle management is questionable at best in terms of leadership style and overall qualifications, and if you do luck up and get a manager that actually cares about you and your career development, chances are your department is HIGHLY inefficient and you’ll end up working overtime (for free) just to account for the lack of competency. A lot of people here are unfortunate enough to have both a terrible manager AND an inefficient team. On top of that, the company pays under market value for most of their positions so it’s REALLY not worth it. The company keeps “growing” so they continue to hire more and more employees without adequate space for them to actually work. A lot of supervisors are micromanagers and don’t want to let employees work remotely, let alone out of their sight, which results in a ridiculously overcrowded NYC office space. I’ve even seen a team with assigned “desks” at a shared 5 x 3 ft table in one of our small, humid conference rooms. Most of the meeting rooms are actually painted closets with no air flow or windows, by the way. Although HelloFresh has been public for months, the company still views itself as a “startup” and refuses to place any real policies around workplace safety and discrimination concerns, thus making everything “up to your manager’s discretion.” This is BY FAR the most toxic work environment I’ve ever been in. I’m only sharing this so that other people won’t be told a different story about working here before they start and then feel stuck like I did.

Pros

Free Food is number 1! We have a test kitchen right in the office so there is always test meals up for grabs and the teams always has samples from vendors up for grabs. The discount on the box is pretty great. Depending on the team you work on, they do hang out outside of work, but really depends on which team. The office space overall is really cool, startup, beer and cold brew on tap.

Cons

The office is so cramped at this point everyone is on top of one other. Some people do not even have their own desk space and just float around to open spaces. The management here is probably the worst I've every seen. They are so concerned about making money they are willing to throw some really great employees under the bus to save themselves. Team turnover is pretty high and the people they're hiring are not working out. They are hiring individuals who are not qualified for positions and are letting employees who are incredibly hard working people struggle under these poor choices. It's really sad to watch this company fall apart in such a short amount of time. There's 0 growth on certain teams. Most upper level employees are outside hires. Don't expect to go very far here.
