It was a seemingly unhappy place filled with overworked, dissatisfied employees.
Pros
Fresh out of college types with no perspective will gain experience. Company is growing during this recession (a plus), however, being a successful retailer providing fast fashion comes at a cost - at the expense of the sales associates, corporate employees, vendors, etc. The Customer benefits the most from Forever 21 - scoring quickly reproduced trendy fashion for a low cost in a shiny bright store rather than the workers behind the scenes.
Cons
Inefficient due to lack of staffing - for example, a total of two full time paid IT employees support 1,300 corporate employees. I was considered "lucky" to get a computer and phone within the 2nd week of working there. Very frugal corporate culture. 30 minute lunch breaks in a cafeteria mess hall (10 minutes of which are taken away by waiting in the chow line). Basically this left you with 20 minutes to clock in/clock out, walk to the mess hall, & wolf down your meal with minimal chatting. I worked 10 hours a day on average with no time for the additional 10 & 15 min breaks due to the workload. As an employee, don't expect anything fancy out of this company. The most basic benefits are provided 90 days after the probationary period is over. The Company President made us scream "FOREVER 21 - WE"RE NUMBER #1!" several times during orientation before we could proceed with the work day. This was appalling as I believe people should believe this on their own rather than being forced by the President to shout this statement. Working there kind of reminded me of being back in junior high with strict schedules, school bells, cold-looking classrooms filled with "mean girl" types, etc.
