Degrading to both teachers and students

Pros

1. Ability to set your own schedule 2. Opportunity to interact with students in many different countries

Cons

1. Very low pay at 10 dollars an hour, which is an insult to qualified and well-trained teachers. 2. Incredibly bureaucratic: too many cooks in the kitchen lead to convoluted policies and rules which seem only to micromanage teachers and dock their pay 3. Terrible student feedback system: there are no tangible assessment standards whatsoever. For a company as large as EF, it is unbelievable that they have not committed the resources to design an effective, automated after class assessment system

Pros

Pays on-time, handles all the nasty stuff (visa, etc). Fun work environment. Good training. Easy classes, materials are pre-made (you can make your own materials as well, if you'd like). Salary is ok, although the location of your center will affect your expenses greatly (even within the same city, and salary doesn't reflect this). You can work here with no prior experience. Overall good starter job.

Cons

Profit is king. Doesn't care about employees except for sales staff (This is a major problem, tends to cause a lot of other issues). Work long-hours including weekday evenings and weekends. Not much in the way of promotion opportunities, promotions tend to be given based on office politics. Having experience and certifications doesn't get you treated much differently than a brand new recruit. Policies change often, so take any comment about the future with a grain of salt. Often pressures experienced staff to "do more" (usually tasks that would normally resemble a promotion) without providing additional benefits. Overall bad long-term job. *A minor side complaint that is a good example of this companies priorities: There was no AC in some centers (including ours) in summer (Temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius). The AC was "broken" - for two summers - except for the sales office.

Pros

Some great students, and a good network of English speaking people are immediately accessible to you, which is comforting at times.

Cons

Terrible management, treat employees like cogs in a machine. 'Summer fun' and 'winter fun' are ridiculous, work horrendously long hours over 6 days a week, and are given no extra pay. Staff are given vague details based on sales of extra courses to students but are never paid the agreed amount.
