Pros

Crate Buyers Select Nice Products Very Nice Customers Design Role is Enjoyable

Cons

The company culture is literally non-existent. Strong associates that work hard are harassed and targeted by associates that do not want to do their jobs, and instead bully others. Good leaders and associates join the company, only to be flooded out the door by a culture that doesn't understand good leadership. Furniture quality and delivery with third-party partnerships are a disaster. Customer service is not consistent, and customers that spend thousands end up hating the brand, even if they love us at the store. The stores are not involved in any decision making, and we are treated as if we don't matter. The "Human Resources" team has literally NO IDEA what they are doing... they harass, bully, and abuse their power to their own agenda. Good performing associates are attacked, and associates creating problems are allowed to do whatever they want. Associates are being abused by the same HR teams that are supposed to protect associate rights. Senior leadership needs to speak with some of the good store-level associates to understand how HR issues are being handled currently. Pay is terrible. The commission structure built is confusing, and only the top performing associates make a living wage. It's embarrassing to be selling tens of thousands of furniture and being paid 1-2%. No one seems to be looking at these issues, so clearly the company doesn't want good employees to stay, or to even stay in business. DO NOT work here!

Toxic HQ, Terrible Culture

Pros

The people that work the hardest support each other.

Cons

Avoid working at Crate HQ or CB2 HQ at all costs. Micro-managing is the norm because management at all levels lack competency in their roles. There’s zero accountability for missed deadlines and poor planning in most departments, frequently creating urgent work for teams and requiring them to work nights, weekends, and through vacations. Crate doesn’t care about employees, unless you are a favorite of the SLT. Also, the decision-making amongst SLT is questionable, and it often feels disconnected from the actual needs and concerns of the employees. This company is so customer focused that they forgot to care about the people doing the work. Don’t even bother reporting an issue to HR. The entire department is a mess. They will act oblivious to an issue, and there are instances where employment laws seem to be overlooked or deliberately ignored, raising serious concerns about the ethical standards within the company. If you value your time, your work, and your sanity, look for a job somewhere else. If you still want to work at Crate, ask a lot of questions all the time. Put pressure on management to make ethical decisions. Get them to understand that their way of working is the worst and change is needed. Crate and Barrel HQ is a terrible place to work. Escape when you can.

Pros

The ability to work in store with a great team of people. Great discount and other benefits. Great product you’re proud to sell.

Cons

New company leadership is lost in their direction. Constant course correcting, micromanaging and lack of communication. They are ruining what used to be a fun and inspiring place to work. Work like balance used to be a focus but has now taken a backseat. Refusal to listen to feedback from tenured employees. Corporate used to “work for the stores”, now it’s their way of the highway.
