Pros

Good health benefits minus the deductible you have to pay. Employee sales. Some people are very friendly. Some managers appreciate their employees.

Cons

Nothing is secret - even HR issues are not secret. A simple thank you is hardly ever received. Workload is completely overwhelming and the pay does not balance out. Gossip, gossip, gossip. Room for advancement & growth is less than spectacular. Review process is not fair - submitted to managers, senior managers and NY HR before presented to you (no matter what you say you cannot change the outcome of your review).

Pros

Discounts on the purses were well worth it. 30% off the Manufacture Price on a number of bags and accessories. You are limited in how many items you can buy, but they don't care so much if you are buying for yourself or a friend-- just as long as you aren't selling the bags on EBay. Also, it is a more professional retail atmosphere where people often take their jobs seriously.

Cons

Sometimes the managers take the job too seriously. They are extremely strict about arriving on time and clocking out on time-- extra time working is just as bad as cutting your hours short. Warnings were often written for the chronically late employees. Also, they say they are not based on commission, but rather a team environment. While it is true you are not financially rewarded for sales, they keep track of your sales and update you hourly if you're not meeting your quota. If you are a top seller you get rewarded as a "Million Dollar Seller" (those who sell a million dollars worth of merchandise in a year). I came to Coach expecting a team philosophy on selling items, but I found the competition to be strong with many "Sales Stealers" wanting to become a Million Dollar Seller. Although I did a fair job on sales and never found out what happened if you made poor sales, I can't imagine you would have a job for long with Coach if you don't sell much because they are constantly on you about meeting quota. There are also a great deal of other nitpicky things like ensuring that all customers are greeted and helped and what not. This makes sense for the company to have standards, but in a high-volume store such as ours, it can be a bit ridiculous when you are a store greeter or are trying to run around making sure everyone gets helped. The worst is if you forget a step with a customer and if they turn out to be a secret shopper, you let the whole store down. Lots of pressure for many little things.

Pros

Experience gained can help set you apart from other candidates when looking to advance externally. If you can get in on a Director level role, you'll be set for a long time as Coach is mediocre at best and there's no accountability.

Cons

Coordinators are given responsibilities on the Manager level Managers are doing Director level work Directors are coasting on the backs of their hardworking team oppressing the advancement of those below them. When you express a desire to advance, you will get moved laterally without additional compensation.
