Pros

My co-workers were all nice. Pay was acceptable.

Cons

The current pandemic climate has left many retail companies struggling to adjust and Casper failed to truly take care of their retail teams when we were forced to come back to work. I was a full time employee so I returned after HR had sent out an email notifying us that we had 24 hours to accept a return from furlough. They did not inform full time managers that their hours would be promptly cut in half three days after returning. When asked if there was a timeline that we could expect to have normal, full time time hours the answer was always “I don’t know”. When pressed for answers, subtle but tangible retaliation ensued. “We need everyone to be supportive and flexible” was what upper management wanted which is really just codified retail-speak for “shut your mouth and take what we give you”. When I gave any kind of feedback to upper management I was met with “make sure you produce what we pay you to produce” while being bound to closed doors and virtual appointments. SM’s were still being held accountable for P&L and payroll while having us only do virtual appointments and keeping our doors closed while the rest of the mall stores were open with strict mask guidelines. Our hands were tied while the whole field struggled with the abysmal roll out of a shopping experience that customers did not respond well to. Up until my last day Casper was not making customers wear masks. I was left with having to choose between quitting in the middle of a pandemic and trying to find something different or staying with a company that had no answers and no support below a surface “we’re here for you”. Casper wanted quiet submission while other companies were doing far beyond what I thought retail companies were capable of doing for their people. Even when I left they didn’t pay me out for PTO that I had banked and while they aren’t required to do this under Ohio state law they could have been like EVERY company I have ever been with and paid people out for PTO that they earned. For a company that bills themselves as “the Apple of mattress in a box retail” they surely haven’t mirrored much. The new company that I work for gave employees the option of remaining on furlough or coming back with reduced hours. The pay cut I took to go there has been worth it in the end. I would never recommend Casper to anyone. Not even as a first time job.

Low morale and Unstbal

Pros

—amazing benefits package —nice office space —some of the best people I ever worked with (who are exiting in droves)

Cons

—some of the worst morale I’ve experienced at any company, especially one so young —the hard work of mid- and entry-level employees is consistently undermined by the erratic and non-transparent decision-making of senior management —comms from senior mgmt are either rose-colored glass views or complete lack of ownership for problems that crop up again and again —poor people management skills at every level —super unclear pay structure that keeps everyone paid 10-20k/yr less than they should be —phony “social good” internal messaging to convince everyone they’re saving the world by selling mattresses —CEO does not know how to talk to other people. Stop making him address the company. It’s a bad look every time.

Pros

Decent salary, and pretty good benefits

Cons

No diversity at HQ level, no real structure to daily store environment, wants to be at a luxury level, but doesn’t place stores in area with like minded retailers.
