I applied through college or university. I interviewed at New York Life
Interview
This was the worst interview of my professional career. I met NYL at my university's career fair and they told me about their interesting career opportunities, so I requested an interview. After a pre-interview questionnaire, I wrote them to make sure this is not a sales representative position. They said no.
At the site, I actually did not get interviewed, but the manager was only talking about the compensation of their "financial planner". Great compensation, interesting compensation, $k compensation. After the compensation talk, I asked, how an internship would actually look like. The manager then told me that they do not take interns, but would put me on hold, so I can start my great career as a "financial planner" right out of college.
This was a complete joke and waste of my time and uber-money.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How much compensation did you get in your previous job?
I applied through college or university. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at New York Life (Des Moines, IA) in Jan 2015
Interview
It was a 3-step Interview process. The first interview was basically a get to know you session to see if you would be a good fit. They also are selling the benefits of being a part of the insurance industry. The second interview is more in depth on your mindset and future objectives. The third was about benefits, how compensation works, and how training works.

Question 1
What motivates you to keep driving every single day?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at New York Life (Des Moines, IA) in Jun 2015
Interview
I had 3 interviews before I accepted the position. The first was a get to know each other. I got to ask questions, and the managing partner got to know me in person as opposed to a phone interview or pre-screening. The 2nd interview was more of a presentation style where the company profile was reviewed. I was asked to do some follow homework to see how serious I was in handling the information given. The 3rd was the answer any questions or objections I had in the process. The 3rd interview is also a time when spouses can be brought in to talk to the managing partner as well. (This did not happen with me.)
