Zimmer is a good place but...

Pros

The medical device industry is a great place to be, resilient to the economic crisis and full of growth opportunities. Zimmer is positioned to take advantage of the industry opportunities and growth at or above market.

Cons

Unfortunately, the industry is rapidly changing and top management seems to struggle. It has been a bit confusing to clearly understand the company direction and even though there is a lot of talk about dedication to people, actions seems to be contrary to foster high employee engagement.

Pros

The bonus is nice. The 401K plan is generous.

Cons

The CEO is following the GE model of forcing the elimination of the bottom 5% performers and employee morale is at an all time low.

Pros

Individial contributers are nice enough

Cons

My time at Zimmer Biomet was marked by ongoing layoffs, weak management, and instability. Communication from leadership was vague and often misleading, leaving employees in a constant state of uncertainty. PMs provided almost no value leaving additonal work for devs. The company aggressively offshored roles previously held by experienced U.S. employees, with little planning or adequate knowledge transfer. Quality suffered, rework increased, and remaining staff were expected to pick up the slack. Short-term cost cutting clearly took priority over people, product quality, and long-term success. Morale was low, burnout was common, and accountability at the leadership level was lacking. The workplace culture was increasingly negative, unprofessional, and politicized. Open discussion of left-leaning political beliefs regularly occurred in professional settings.
