Pros

Strong start - some interesting work and great colleagues made the job much more bearable

Cons

Working at ZOO was frequently disheartening, and I often felt overworked, undervalued, exploited, and extremely underpaid. In the time I was there, management flagrantly ignored the multiple issues raised by the staffing body, including concerns surrounding redundancies and the lack of mitigations to prevent them. When the redundancies were made, the process was extremely poorly handled by highest management. The communication was minimal and the reasons for rejecting employees’ suggested alternatives to redundancies were farcical. Any exodus that ZOO now experiences is thoroughly deserved - the company never showed that it valued its staff and the morale was shot to zero by the time I left. As well as this, opportunities for progression were minimal - it seems ZOO would much rather make redundancies and hire cheaper staff abroad than maintain the existing staff who know their jobs inside out. Finally, the highest management are particularly dangerous - a “boys club” who don’t understand that their actions have impact and that their 'communication style' is cold and their 'care for staff' superficial.

ZOO Digital Group Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your time at ZOO. We are sorry to hear about your negative experiences and this will be shared with our executive team to review. The past year has been a challenging time for the industry and the company due to the changing priorities of our streaming clients and the prolonged Hollywood strikes which resulted in redundancies taking place. We appreciate that going through a redundancy process is extremely difficult and we ensure that ZOO clearly communicates frequently throughout the process with compassion along with providing additional resources to assist those affected. Whilst we expand our global footprint, some locations will expand as we aim to put certain resources as close to local markets as possible. We are working hard to ensure we create balance between all facilities. If you would like to share more details on your experience and ways we could have improved in your situation, please reach out to our HR team. Your advice is valued, and we are committed to investing in the well-being of our staff, enhancing communication channels, and fostering a more inclusive workplace culture.

Pros

- Nice office - Nice employees the further down you go

Cons

- No business strategy, and therefor as soon as the work stopped coming (writers and actors strikes) they had no plan, no safety net (spent their money on stupid things) and made a lot of the workforce redundant - Bullying culture all over the business. If you're a straight white man, you'll get on fine. Anybody else, save yourself the aggravation and don't bother. Even with evidence and witnesses, you will never be believed, supported, and nothing will ever get done. - Sexual harassment is reported and not acted upon. You will then be gaslighted into thinking you're in the wrong, while sexual predators are put in front of customers and given a pay rise. - People stealing money from the company by using corporate credit cards to go on drinking benders and buying personal items - People are allowed to drink alcohol and smoke vapes at their desk - Exec team are corrupt and play favourites with the staff. When making people redundant they got rid of all trans, none binary, POC, and blamed it on a scoring system - No career progression - Full time recruitment person still employed, when half the workforce was let go and they are aiming to not hire any people in the UK or the US going forward. - Heavy on moving all work to India and therefore people are working themselves out of a job - People in senior positions because they have worked there a long time, even though they are incompetent, and no support is given to them to make them any better - Wasting money on an office in London that is mouse infested, and doesn't have any employees in it. - Waste money on an office in LA that can hold over 200 people but had 20 people using - Wasting money on an office in Sheffield that is only 10% full - No recognition, unless you're at the C-Suite, in which case you'll get up to 100% bonus. - They keep expanding abroad instead of investing in the staff they have - The CEO is spineless and lets people walk all over him. He micromanages half of the business, and isn't allowed to touch the rest. If the business is still there in a year, I will be shocked.

Pros

Seeing cool movies and television shows.

Cons

Just saw an ad on Indeed that they need an English Editor again. I thought about it. Then I thought back to what happened. On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving when they did lunch and meeting they said they just had an increase in budget, new clients and the company was doing very well. Then, the next day they sent some of us an email saying don’t come in Monday at your regular time. Be here at 10 am. Then we were all freaked out and this girl ( I won’t name names ) said no one was getting laid off, don’t worry. On Monday at 10, they supposedly laid us all off, but we really just got fired.
