      great co-workers, bad management

      Pros

      interested products great co-workers good benefits nice area on-site cafe

      Cons

      bad managers, the management that took over R&D about 4 years ago is terrible. They treat their engineers with little respect, don't acknowledge their contributions, don't support your development, over work them and they are losing talented people because of it. Only reason most people have stayed is because they live in the area and don't want to commute to silicon valley.

      Sinking ship

      Pros

      Saying you work for one of the most prestigious manufactures of optics in the world. Exciting technology. Field personal that to this day still keep in touch with.

      Cons

      The place is nothing more than a sinking ship. First sign for me was when the cafeteria was removed to save on cost. Second for me was when coffee was removed from the cafeteria and you were expected to provide your own. You know the place is taking on water when a free cup of coffee for your employees can sink you. There are employees based around the US that are required to fly back to hq once a month and stay in a hotel all so they can work from a desk. Why??? Can that and spring for coffee. One is expected to learn all facets of your job with zero room for error on bare minimum training. I always laughed when the yearly "pulse check" enployee email was sent out asking everyone to basically lie saying how great it is to work there. Not a single member of upper management is to be trusted. They've all been there forever and are fixtures. How this is possible when now 1/4 of the building is unoccupied and is proving extremely difficult to rent out is beyond me. In short products are fantastic, culture and management is grotesquely deficiant.

      Pros

      Excellent benefits, generous time off, Management is accessible and open to ideas. German company, so get to work with many different people. Complimentary donuts/fruit/bagels every other Friday.

      Cons

      Parking can be tight mid day. Being a German company, sometimes process changes happen slowly.
