Pros

free drinks and some fruits (not really fresh but okay)

Cons

Worked there for a while and what I experienced was just beyond ridiculous. I decided to write finally a review, because I’m seeing the company still making misleading claims on social media about the work environment. I’m in the workforce for 10+ years so I have quite some comparisons, however it was my first employer in Estonia so perhaps there are some cultural differences involved. Anyway I had multiple offers on the table and decided for Coingaming because they made a great first impression - little did I know back then that it was all fake. Management The management is either clueless or just ignorant, there seems to be no logical reasoning. For example we had team meetings were 95% of the time one person talked and others couldn’t even bring in their topics - a reasonable manager would step in and give everyone a chance to be heard. Not so at Coingaming where the loudest person always wins no matter how irrelevant the spoken words. They just don’t understand different cultures and that some people are louder than others. Furthermore they hand out fancy titles like chocolate. So you have all those "project managers" and it’s impossible to find the right POC and they don’t even know the any details. It’s a complete mess. Work place They require you to come to the office instead of working from home mostly. However they have quite open offices, so it’s very loud and noisy and you can’t focus on your work. Bring your headphones otherwise you will go crazy. It can also get smelly from animal urine and old spilled milk. Bonus I received a yearly bonus and the amount was something like 2 or 3 percent of my yearly salary. I don’t know if that’s typical for Estonia but where I’m from, it’s usually 10-30% of the yearly salary. I’m quite proud to say that I fulfilled all tasks diligently and all KPIs showed me as one of the best members in my team. However it doesn’t seem that there is any logic involved in calculating bonuses. They even proudly bragged about how much they paid in total, so I just divided it by the numbers of employees and realized I got disadvantaged very strongly. There was no performance review or anything either. I didn’t even received the full amount that was promised by the mangement. Payslips They don’t hand out payslips automatically, you have to ask for them and then they only send them for one month or so and you have to ask again. Very weird business practice. The payslips don’t have any adresse or contact details on them, so this appeared very shady to me. Sports benefits They tell you gym membership is on them. But actually the contract is between you and the gym. So when coingaming was not funding the company account once, I got hassled by some shady inkasso company representative (most likely the mob) - like in the really bad movies. Thankfully myfitness revoked the claim after I complained to them and treated to sue them. So I did nothing wrong at all and still got harassed by unpleasant people. No help or even a sorry from Coingaming. Teamwork There is absolutely no communication between teams. It’s like people working next to each other but don’t know what the other person is doing. Each team is like a stranger to the other. I called it silo work. In the beginning I thought it’s just some misunderstanding before I realized it’s actually a strategy of them to play dumb all the time. Innovation days They promised 24 innovation days per year in the job posting. I worked there for almost a year and all I got was like one hour of project time after I made several complaints. At the time the project hour was granted I had already terminated my employment mentally. They also mentioned salary reviews - didn’t happened at all. Racism There is definitely a lot of racism in the company - like others here already mentioned. The company should enforce some strict rules for example making clear that the working language is English and not Portuguese. Also they should end the corruption in the company. Sexism There is a tendency to discriminate against men in my opinion. Sexism is bad in any direction. It shouldn’t be part of the workplace. Perhaps that’s the reason why they can’t find any good coders. Nobody likes to get treated like a second class person. Illegal Gambling Unfortunately most of their gambling offers are illegal. They have a valid license only for a few smaller markets like Estonia. However most of their revenue is coming from markets where they operate illegally - mostly Asia and South America. I asked them for clarification via email and they didn’t answered my questions. In 2020 they also decided to pull out of the markets I was working in, so that tells me a clear story. Even the Estonian press mentioned some of the shady practices of Coingaming Group: Tallinn online gaming firm one of several exploiting loopholes Salary/Compensation not paid After I quit I realized that they still owe me some money so I contacted them to solve the dispute outside of court. However they just played on time and then said my claim was “expired”. If you’re asking how can a claim expire, there is a paragraph in the Estonian law that says you need to make your claim within 4 months otherwise it becomes invalid. Since they didn’t paid me I filled the claim with the authorities and needless to say I won the case. The Estonian legal system is very good and super fast.
GDPR I made a GDPR request and they again delayed it without any reason. Till this day I haven’t received a correct answer to this request from them. The first version they send me was even missing my personal id. So what they sent was just a template from the internet with my name and that’s it. They pretend to have absolutely no information about me on file after working for almost a year there. It’s like I’m a ghost. They have obviously no idea about compliance whatsoever. Fake Reviews I do believe that most of the 5-star ratings are fake and I noticed that some of them were already removed by Glassdoor. It appears to me that the company spammed positive reviews to cover up the sad reality. Business Model I looked long for any positive in the business model but in my opinion it is on the brink of being criminal. I experienced multiple customers who mentioned to kill themself and the response from Coingaming was to send them some links for Gambling therapy. They run most of their operation illegally without a real license for Sportsbet and bitcasino. Also slots.io is only licensed in Estonia. Most of their profits are coming from crypto assets appreciation instead of any operational expertise and then they use money laundering to clean the profits from their illegal gambling business into legit businesses like Bombay club studios and the offline casino. Of course all those ventures loose vast amounts of money and are financed by the illegal gambling operation. Values In the beginning I liked their values and I believed that the company has great potential. However I noticed quickly that it is being run in the dumbest way possible. It matters literally zero what you produce or not. It’s all about putting on a good show - favoritism and nepotism at its best. All of the hires and promotions are based on likability and non-work related characteristics. Overall In the end I’m happy that I left the company and I should have done it much earlier after I noticed that things are “fishy” in this company. I have a lot of friends in IT and all of them had bad experiences with Coingaming. I believe the brand is burned in the tech and crypto scene. Nobody wants to work with them, that’s why they try to build everything themself. By the way don’t trust my words. Go to LinkedIn and check their median tenure time. It’s the lowest I could find in the industry. Within the time I was working there nearly all the smart people left, the turnover seemed to be super high. Median tenure is 1.8 years as of writing this review.

Pros

More or less competitive salary. And that's it

Cons

1. All the things that they would promise to you is lying 2. There is no official hierarchy. So some people which are unrelated to you and your team will give you irrelevant tasks. 3. Your managers won't have any idea about development. If you are a backend engineer (non full-stack), nobody will take into account your development language and skills. They might force you to do frontend tasks. 3. The title of the person doesn't match the person's responsibility. For example, the Product Owner is the Product manager. The QA is the analyst. There are no POs at all. The manager doesn't have employees. 4. Salary review? No, not in this company. 5. Personal growth? Believe me, the best result would be if you stay on the same level. They force you to work 10 hours per day. They insist on the awful workarounds and after that they will call you in the middle of the night and blame in the all possible sins.
