Pros

Okay if you like startup environments

Cons

- career growth depends on networking rather than merit - pay is well below average and management doesn't give out bonuses and hasn't increased the salary bands in 2023 despite the company seeing record profits - work/life balance is awful as you are constantly peer pressured into travelling to other countries for company events that last several days - company culture is trying to scare engineers into not asking for salary raises while asking them to work 4 different jobs at once because of a lack of middle/project/product managers - engineers are promoted to managers randomly, with no training. A high number of first-time managers make life impossible for engineers - independence of teams is worshipped even as it has become clear to everyone for quite some time that the company needs a hierarchical structure to get things done properly. Independent teams are a waste of everyone's time and mental health but management refuses to address the issue - salaries are kept low with the excuse that "we're a growth company, your shares will grow a lot" but a quick look at the stock market cap over the past two years debunks this myth

Pros

Some helpful people (only a handful) Work from abroad 90 days a year

Cons

I'm hoping this message gets through to all those people thinking of whether they should apply or interview at this company. ---> If you care about your mental health, don't work at Wise. This place is not toxic, it's lethal: - They share fake mantras like "no drama, good karma" but all you can see around you is drama, gossip, managers pretending to work by replying to slack threads, and absolutely no substance or strategy at all. - Managers are random people who happened to be hired there and stayed until someone asked them to manage other human beings, which they do by treating them like nothing. - I was bullied, gaslit and harassed by a pathetic person who had no knowledge of languages or global strategies, no life and expected me to be online all the time. - After I quit (they couldn't fire me as performance reviews were positive all around) almost all of his team (SEO) left or was fired. All PMMs left. Another person affected by racist comments quit. Someone in SEO told me of misogynist comments too. - It's honestly the worst place I've ever worked for and I regret to this day having accepted that job. My mental health was heavily affected with panic attacks, insomnia, stress, and depression. - Ask yourself why all positive reviews have "less than 1 year" in the title. That's because Wise asks people in probation to write a review. - They will promise you parties, promotions, autonomy. It is to cover their perpetual culture of silence, gaslighting and fake mantra cults. I hope no one else will ever go through this as it's completely horrible and should really be looked into by independent companies.

Pros

Friendly people. Profitable company with aspirational mission. Good reputation within FinTech. Good work life balance. Great exposure to complex/growing organisation.

Cons

Poor compensation. Lowest in market. Limited salary/career advancement. Early employees get "hall passes" and special treatment. Cost cutting at every corner. Many leads are unqualified.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and I’m sorry to hear about your frustrations. I hope you feel you can give this feedback to your team lead or a trusted member of the People team as it’s the only way we can get better. We review salary ranges globally at least every 12 months and more frequently for some roles. In addition to salary we continue to offer competitive stock options for all employees to share in the long term success of our company. Would you be up for a confidential chat with me or another member of the People team? Feel free to reach out to me on Slack and we can find some time. Thanks, Jihan
