Toxic Culture, Unstable Leadership, and Zero Work-Life Balance

Pros

None worth mentioning. Any recent positive reviews here appear to be forced or influenced — likely to counterbalance the genuine negative feedback.

Cons

Toxic senior-level politics: Leadership prioritizes personal job security over organizational stability. Sudden terminations are common — not due to performance, but to protect senior positions. Favoritism over merit: Actual performers are overlooked while favorites of management are rewarded and retained, creating a highly demotivating environment. Lack of leadership vision: Strategic direction changes every quarter — one month it's about hiring full-time employees and reducing vendor dependency, and the next it's mass layoffs of FTEs in favor of vendor partnerships. No job security: Employees are laid off without any performance-related justification. Even those contributing 16–20 hours a day with zero escalations are not safe. No work-life balance: Expect to be on call and working round the clock. Despite consistent deliveries, appreciation is rare, and job loss is a constant fear. Advice to Job Seekers: Avoid this organization at all costs — even if you are currently unemployed. Joining here could derail your career and mental peace.

Pros

-Pay (golden handcuffs, though) -Location is in tech center

Cons

1) Toxic management/leadership. -Was told culture is “sink or swim” and to “create my own responsibilities” -Passive-aggressive leaders from middle management and director. Constantly looking at your screen when walking by, snippy emails, and openly criticize subordinate work on open floor in front of you. 2) Unlimited PTO. This depends on your manager/team director, however, this policy enables control freaks and micromanagers. Was told 10 days was too many in my first year. 3) Attendance. The company requires you in office minimum 3 days a week and if you miss your attendance threshold 2 weeks in a row, you’re required to meet w/ your manager and HR about your performance. And no flexibility to work fully remote around the holidays. I was “pressured” to be in the office for Christmas. 4) Financial Concerns. Western Union is in serious trouble financially. With the crackdown on immigration, migrants (Western Union’s main customer) have reduced their transaction volume significantly, resulting in a major revenue decrease for the overall company. In-turn, Western Union has subleased 2 floors at their HQ building to generate new revenue and are looking at potentially subleasing another floor. This has resulted in hoteling at HQ, w/ certain floors not having enough seats for bigger teams and the executive team asking employees to come in different days than they normally do. I could go on all day about how toxic the culture was and that starts from the top (real estate director). Avoid that department at all costs and only take a job here if you’re desperate (layoffs happen almost monthly).

Pros

Honestly, I did not find any real pros during my time here.

Cons

Absolutely no team culture inside the office. Everyone works in silos with no collaboration. Managers act like mere messengers of senior leadership without any authority to make independent decisions. Mandatory 3 days of office per week, even if you have valid emergencies or have already taken leaves management still expects you to show up. Company is highly unstable; there are regular discussions around bankruptcy, and leadership often hints that employees should start looking for better opportunities outside. Townhalls are demotivating; instead of sharing future growth strategies, leaders only focus on cost-cutting measures every single time. No vision or strategic planning from leadership just endless cost-cutting talks. At senior and manager levels, most people focus only on creating dependency on themselves, not on building a healthy team. Micromanagement is extremely common there is no trust in employees' abilities. Zero transparency in decision-making, promotions, or raises. Workload is highly unbalanced, and appreciation is rare to nonexistent. HR policies keep changing without proper communication, creating confusion among employees. Very poor work-life balance due to unrealistic expectations and unplanned tasks dumped at the last minute.
