Great product, but the job is a pressure cooker

Pros

Helping people improve their English. Colleagues are great. Potential to move up the corporate ladder when successful.

Cons

Top-down management or old school management style. No decision making ability - everything goes through HQ. Enormous amounts of pressure to sell and generate revenue. Long hours for minimal salary. Product is great, but overpriced. No benefits.

Pros

Opportunities for center staff to change centers or advance Students want to learn, available for most ages (11 years and older) Flexible hours for students Choice of shift depending on position (split shift or block shift, day time or night time) Should be paid training up front (mine was, complete with housing and meals provided!) along with paid for housing (hotels in some cases) during other training times Visa sponsorship available Assistance provided in locating housing and transportation if necessary Center management can hire staff at their center Airport pick up upon arrival (at least in my area) Students are grouped in classes by ability, not necessarily by age Some lessons are already pre-planned, but the teacher does have some freedom with the material provided Currently, there are opportunities to increase salary based on qualifications and reaching different levels (in Ecuador) If necessary to travel to other centers for whatever reason, transportation is covered by center Students can receive certificates that will allow them to enter into universities

Cons

Fairly expensive for language institute for students Entry level staff is paid a minimum Flights are not included in the contract, no allowance for flights Occasionally there are long days (generally 8 hours, sometimes 9 hours or so depending), though this should be communicated before it's necessary Frequent turnover rate of new employees, usually because of the low level entry pay, can cause some confusion with students

Pros

Professional Opportunities - Center staff can become Center Managers based on their training and skill-set, whether that is in Sales or Service/Education Teaching for adults - Students are there for a reason and have paid a decent amount of money for their course so are motivated. When a school gets it right the atmosphere is great, both for staff and students

Cons

Salary scale for entry level employees is not great and is varied across its worldwide schools Interest in staff can vary depending on the country you work in and the ability of the senior management who invariably do not really know what is going on at ground level.
