Pros

If you lerarn the vast amounts of information, you should be able to prevent many medical conditions and make crude diagnoses before having to run to a hospital or doctor. There are many cool customers which make the day fun.

Cons

Product rotation, endless "projects", constant schedule changes, ignored time off requests (made weeks in advance, approved by the store manager, then Surprise! I am scheduled on the day I thought I had off with no one willing to switch shifts) These may not accurately represent all stores, but my branch is horrible.

Pros

the vitamin shoppe is great if you're interested in supplements and nutrition and have the drive to actually know what you're talking about. you meet some great people and feel like you get to really know your customers! when you create a relationship where your customer trusts your opinions on supplements its a really cool feeling.

Cons

Senior management at the vitamin shoppe is a complete joke, if youre lucky enough to have a manager who is mildly interested in health and fitness it could be an alright place to work, BUT like others have said; they hire young people at minimum wage for a job requiring MASSIVE amounts of knowledge about specific health conditions and supplemental interactions. Management is pretty much told not to trust their employees and hardly ever help maintain the store or listen to ideas from part timers to improve efficiency. Not sympathetic to family/personal issues and time off requests challenged even when made in advance (two weeks prior). this job is often tedious because of expiring products and management does not help with these tasks nor make it easier by throwing away the inventory expiration charts THE EMPLOYEES are making.

Pros

I started this job because, I have a real passion for nutritional supplements. I enjoy helping people and really enjoy that part of this job. I have learned so much from from people who come into the store to shop.

Cons

The Vitamin Shoppe hires young people who they can pay minimum wage. They put them through an on line training coarse, that most of them cheat their way through. Even if they didn't cheat they still wouldn't know anything. Then they give them pins and call them experts. The advice I have heard given in these stores makes me cringe. I can't say that I am proud to work there. The new corporate people are some of the most miserable people I have ever met. They never have anything good to say just always complaining.
