Extreneous hours, very intense physical work and F/T pay that is not competitive in our current NY economy

Pros

The committed individuals that float the floor every day and work very hard for very long hours.

Cons

Store Leadership simply needs a dose of humanity. They make senior f/t personnel assume leadership roles, which is a great career opportunity, however, these individuals are not en route to a promotion and they get abused with unrealistic continuous hours, playing multiple roles and at crazy hours throughout the day or night. No wonder some many great full timers have left.

Pros

The pay scale is pretty high. I started out brand new in retail and I'm getting $12 an hour. While in Foundation Training over 4 weeks everyone, every single employee, was nice and kind and encouraging.

Cons

Once you get the apron on the attitudes change. You are another worker bee. No one is friendly, everyone is stressed out and telling you what to do. And cleaning garbage cans and toilets? Please! The store can WELL AFFORD to pay a company to clean professionally more than once a week. And when someone is supposed to come relieve you at the register, it would be nice if someone actually SHOWED UP ON TIME. TCS is so STRICT about so many things but they are very weak when dealing with actual living people. Very inconsiderate when it comes to making sure people are relieved. And they only care about the numbers.

Pros

The people you will work with are amazing individuals. The discount 40% off everything (except the label maker and drill) and 50% off of elfa.

Cons

The hours can become long. Managing peoples "values and attitudes" is considered the #1 priority for a manager. Is the container store like a religion or has religion just become more like business? Managers make it out onto the floor very very rarely. The store director doesn't even know how to operate the register.
