Pros

Free makeup and employee discount

Cons

As an external store manager I got horrible training. Everyday it seems like there is something else I didn’t know I should be doing because Of the lack of proper training. The majority of store managers at Sephora are internal hires who have been with the company for 10+ years. The lack of training has me questioning my abilities on a daily basis. Everyone expects you to know everything and that’s not fair. Aside from having to deal with terrible training you also have a business to run with a million and one metrics. Everyday it seems as if the CEO just adds another metric/ field objective. Staff is underpaid and overworked and retention is a headache. Stop making your employees do so much work for such little pay. A bag of gratis every month is not motivation. Employees are expected to up-stock, clean store (pride), sign clients up for credit cards, sign clients up for beauty insider, sign clients up for services, meet hourly sales goals, sell multi world baskets, use an MCIQ and more on a daily basis and it’s a lot. I feel bad for my employees this company should be ashamed of themselves. For the most part the current CEO should really rethink their current sales strategy. Store managers have no work life balance and this job is mentally and physically draining. I regret applying for this job!

Pros

-Some gratis - it seems to be less and less and every year -Good discount -Well-known partnerships and popular brands -Quality products

Cons

There are so many, I don't know where to start. Every con mentioned is true - the backstabbing, the gossiping, high turnover, and lack of females empowering each other. Every department has some variation of it, but it's consistent across the company. It's a beauty company, yet cis-men hold many of the executive leadership roles. (Hi patriarchy) I have both seen and experienced senior management stealing ideas from brighter, more junior employees for their own gain and development. I have watched people, mostly women of color, stagnate FOR YEARS in roles their white counterparts (and many MBA grads) did not. This company touts diversity and inclusiveness, which you may find in some stores, but HQ is most certainly not. Promotions are all pre-determined based on friendships and pedigrees. Egos run rampant at Sephora. Good luck being respected or heard if you do not hold a Director or above title. Junior employees are expected to shut up and do what they are told. Managers are terrible. Across the organization, they are bullies with elitist attitudes. Paid-time off is only 20 days. Benefits and perks are terrible. No daycare, stocked kitchens, or state-of-the-art offices like many other Bay Area companies. If you want a free makeup brush every six months, come to Sephora. If you want to experience career growth, a living wage, and just general human decency, please seek employment elsewhere.

Pros

Getting a discount, it’s only 20% which is the lowest I’ve ever seen at any place I’ve worked It’s the same as a customer gets during a sale. Gratis is good

Cons

Management forces you to do their job and not be paid for it or they tell you you can leave. Our Leaders have promised us a salary increase for years to be in line with other merchants and they have not come through. We’ve been told we will not receive a bonus this year. I have joined a group of us that are putting together a class action with a lawyer on doing jobs we are not being paid for since this borderlines abusive. Management shows no respect to employees unless you do their dirty work and backstab your fellow employees. No daycare, terrible medical benefits, no free lunches, gym exercise, snacks, etc. like every company in the Bay Area. Candidates think it’s a great place to work but if they only knew so I finally felt the need to share details. No work life balance whatsoever and all we do is spend all of our time in wasted meetings and conference calls that are completely unnecessary
