Pros

Flexible schedules, nice friendly atmosphere. The pay is decent for the retail atmosphere. Working for Sears makes the holidays fun.

Cons

Bad benefits and paid time off. I had 35 hours of paid vacation in the first 2 years of employment. I am now in my 3rd year and I still only have 70 hours that is not even a full two weeks. I think that the sears grands need to just close. Something that Sears really stinks at is combining all of their sister companies together. We have people come in our store all of the time who think that we are the same things as Kmart and expect us to have the same items and we dont.

Pros

When Sears was "Sears" it was a great place to work because of the leadership and the name behind the company. Sears is not a bad place to start a career for a college graduate but don't expect to become successful and place Sears on your resume and receive good feedback.

Cons

Once Sears merged with Kmart, everything changed. There is constant bickering amidst whether or not you are a "Sears" person or a "Kmart" person. Although they list hundreds of jobs on their career site, Sears is tremendously bad at promoting people from within and recognizing or taking care of associates who have been dedicated and true to the organization. The management style is "manage by intimidation" and they leave very little room for personal growth. They are extrememly behind technologically and unfortunately fail to retain top talent because of their lack of opportunities. Management does not trust the work force and they treat the majority of associates like they were rebellious teenagers who need constant micro managing.

Pros

Good benefits. There is an overall positive energy that people make the effort to maintain and you will get respect. Upper management does its best to convey a postive opinion about the business, pitching the health of the company to employees much as it would to its investors - understandably, I suppose. The company celebrates successes publically (to the whole company) and rewards outstanding performance.

Cons

Workload and high expectations may mean 6 day work weeks and always being behind. My business unit and partners seem to have trouble communicating and taking ownership. Too much politics in terms of protecting your own butt and blaming the ignorant or new people. The politics seem to stifle finding the right solutions, by protecting egos and saving face; which led to some poor decisions and a breakdown in communication.
