Pros

Great exposure to retail, fair amount of employee autonomy, lots of new development being done online, lots of focus on social networking, opportunities to work on new technologies and trends

Cons

Everyone that leaves Sears e-commerce describes the culture of the group as "toxic". Management runs ecomm like a hedge fund because of the chairman. No money is being put into the stores and they are falling apart (have you been to a Sears store lately? If you're not buying a dryer or a hammer, why would you?). Strategic roadmaps are derailed for executive pet projects on a regular basis. The ecomm group has no work/life balance - you are expected to work 70+ hours per week. Managers at all levels verbally abuse employees, usually in front of their peers, or sometimes in front of their direct reports. Ecomm is frequently called a bus station because people so readily "throw you under the bus". Few managers "have your back", even if you are doing exactly what they asked for. If you are desperate and need to take a job there, you might be able to get a higher salary since the word is out in Chicago and a lot of people won't interview with them. And if you are relocating, make them pay your moving expenses because they usually will.
