Cons

I worked for the Singapore HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICE from 2015 to 2017. A redundancy exercise was conducted between 27 Feb to 1st march 2027 that targeted me on purpose despite me covering the numerous areas of work when the previous team left leaving 3 to 4 less headcount in HR. I performed work as a covering HR business partner on top my original role in learning and development. I performed tasks such as recruitment, disciplinary inquiry/misconduct investigations, performance management oracle talentforce implementation, employee grievances, administer psychometric testing, orientation and induction, teaching the SGS CODE OF INTEGRITY and learning and development. I was even pressured to terminate the employment of certain people whom I felt was not fully deserving of it when the problem was with the management. When the core team members of the former team left I took on these numerous tasks and more. They have now decided to ditch me in a manner unacceptable by any organizational standards. They cheated me of what was right in the variable bonus payout. This is grossly unethical behavior. How so? They decided to terminate my employment saying my role has been made redundant but choose to do it exactly 30days before the performance bonus payout on 31 March 2017. My appraisal in the oracle talentforce system clearly indicates I have been graded as "MET EXPECTATIONS" across ALL KPIs set and competencies evaluated in the 2016 Staff Evaluation Form. Mind you that I was the one who was the driving force behind implementing the talentforce Oracle performance management team system and getting all 400 over people to write their goals and success criteria online, many of whom, hundreds I have coached doing so in 2015 and 2016 and hit a very high overall adoption rate. I asked for them to give me my bonus and at least throw me 1 month worth before I took my last walk out of the office. The newly joined 'HR 'Representative' together with the National Operational Integrity 'Representstive' told me that the Senior Management of the Singapore office has decided I was not going to be given the bonus. They further quoted to me that resigned employees were not entitled to it. I did not resign. In fact I was made "redundant". I told them that if I was not given what was due and fair I would tell my story and take my recourse to seek what is right. I told them to "do the right thing". The HR 'Representative' and the OI 'Representative' then had to go up to the Senior Management and relay my message. They came down after talking to the Seniir management and said they will give me something after an intense 30minute argument. I told them that it is not acceptable as there is no number ($) committed to in writing. I asked for a letter to state the bonus payout and they reluctantly gave me the letter without a commitment to a number. The HR 'Representstive', told me that I should keep this quiet as the rest who shared the same fate as me the past few days from the Industrial Division did not get a bonus payout. I said if you're not doing anything wrong why should I keep quiet. And now, the end result today is that they have given me a thousand over Singapore dollars only when they averages across were generally 1.5 to 1.8months. And mind you I asked for 1 miserable month only yet they refuse to do what is right. My 1 month income was more than double that number. I warned them that I would take action and seek my course of justice. I am writing here to openly inform you that the Seniir Management and HR 'Representative' of Singapore has NO INTEGRITY as they have cheated me of what is due to me despite them meeting 2016's LC and Budget. I have the documents to prove it and am willing to testify under any circumstances at any length and breath to prove every word that I have said is true. I challenge the management in Geneva to respond to this message responsibly and abide by its own SGS Code of Integrity of which the Singapore office is gravely lacking as a whole on many fronts. Of all the people in the company, they had the audacity to cheat someone who was appointed to teach the COI and conduct the induction. The Singapore Employment Act guards you against doing wrong but it does not teach you to do what is right just like most laws. I don't need the Employment Act to do what is right. You have your conscience, hopefully it's not seared. My case is blatantly valid, and I'll fight this valiantly to the teeth. I went through the appropriate channels in the local management office but it seems that they intent on being unscrupulous as evident in many of their affairs which you are fully aware of on various fronts. Henceforth my protest for the truth to come out. I am a family man. To cheat me is to cheat my family especially my children. Now, put your hand on your heart as you read this last line. Pros

I'm not being petty; I sincerely can't think of any. There were a few neat things about working at my specific site, but nothing good about SGS as a whole.

Cons

I've always been skeptical of big corporations, and this place turned out to be every disgusting stereotype I ever imagined a mega multinational corporation to be. Their corporate culture, at least in North America, is a ruthless snake pit of morally dubious individuals, while their actual corporate functioning is so bloated with bureaucracy and red tape that they are utterly incompetent to do anything. No one wants to take responsibility (read: blame) for any decisions, so no one will actually ever make any decisions or provide any answers. They just pass the buck around for weeks and months until you forget or lose your mind. EXCEPT when it comes to money. When that's involved they will strike fast and hard for that precious bottom line. SGS is by far the worst company I have ever worked for. They completely dehumanize the people who work there. It's strictly about the numbers. It doesn't matter whatever they've told you, promised you, or even stated in writing. They will go back on their promises, they treat their suppliers like garbage, and their employees as assets on a spreadsheet. I really can't say enough how much you should avoid working here. As for the numbers, we were all woefully underpaid, at least according to Glassdoor's own estimations. Insurance was okay-ish. I've experienced far worse, but also much better. Retirement benefits a little below average in my experience. Vacation time poor, but sick time mostly makes up for that. For a company that's constantly ramming "Integrity Training" down everyone's throat, there is a stunning lack of it among their corporate management.
