Pros

My River Island Family were a great bunch! Always came into work with smiles on their face & even at the busiest times still managed to work well together! The 30% discount! Free uniform! Not the longest hours of work and is a very flexible company!

Cons

TBH there is not one bad thing i can say about the company itself, everyone i spoke to before i started had something to say about the company and that it was the worst company to work for ect but my time at river island was a good experience , the only thing i didn't like was was christmas eve... i ended up staying all the way through till christmas day till 1.30 in the morning!

Pros

The discount offered was a pro and I think that the pay was fair. The hours I was allowed to do (8/9 as I am a student) was a pro as I could could have a job and work on my studies. But also, overtime was always offered in school holidays which was a pro. I was allowed to transfer between stores which helped me keep my job.

Cons

Managers being somewhat incapable of running the store in some instances. Different rules/regulations for them and for the low level staff. Also the face that favoritism clouded their judgement. For example, I worked at the company for 4 years and was still treated like I was a fairly new member of staff in some instances e.g. no responsibility or trust given. HR was a nightmare basically, there was no structure to what they did e.g. if managers/level 2 staff left, they replaced them with people who had been working at the company for a couple of months (this happened at least 3 times towards to end of my employment) which led onto further problems of them running the store.

Pros

There can be strong connections between some of my managers. In a work place the main thing that i look at is that everyone actually gets along with each other and that we're like a family rather than people competing and looking down at each other

Cons

One of the challenges which i had to face was talking back to management, reason being is; management on the top end, such as deputy managers they mainly look down at you as just a worker, if they were to act a bit more friendly towards us I'm sure that we'd not only increase our productivity but the attitude towards customers would change along with it. Working environment affects the way we behave, so if we are treated respectfully i believe we'd be able to give better service.
