It Was a Good Run

Pros

Got to see some exciting growth at the beginning and was there early enough to be promoted several times

Cons

Big disconnect between mgmt and what was actually going on... Had trouble adjusting with covid and then way over hired despite very few markets having any success Zillow change forced them to basically use the mls pretty much all the time, rendering the original concept of the business fairly useless Funding issues forced major work reductions where there was no severance offered aside from keeping equipment... at this point most people I know still there are interviewing elsewhere, but many have already jumped ship.

Pros

- The CEO just vanished and nobody knows exactly where he is but at least he is not around.

Cons

- Everybody from marketing fled. - Half of engineering left already. - CTO/CFO/CDO/Head of HR all left within 2 months - The company could not even afford to pay severance in the last round of layoff (there were many). - The company has zero competitive advantage, it has no secret sauce, no technology

Pros

A noble mission in that they are trying to disrupt a selfish real estate industry.

Cons

They just laid off a lot of employees with zero severance while they closed on a round of funding. That about sums up the business outlook. How do you raise all of that money and you can't afford to pay a little severance? Is it that dire? Maybe the CEO, Jack Ryan, just didn't want to help these people and instead kicked them to the curb with no notice and no remorse. Aside from the layoff it seems a lot of people are finding the exit door for themselves. The CEO says everything is fine yet the writing on the wall is very different. Is it immoral to mislead your employees to keep the company's doors open a little longer? Join REX for a firsthand account of this boundary!
