Pros

No pros. It's a paycheck.

Cons

There is absolutely no work-life balance for associates. I worked 3rd shift and had to work every single weekend; I had no life. They instituted rotation, which is when you have to work 6 days once or twice a month. But they refused to rotate weekends so that ppl could have some semblance of a normal life. Turn over is ridiculous due to the fact that management has absolutely no regard for the associates. Only two people can be off per shift, but you're screwed if you work the same shift as the manager because she takes off several days each and every month. There is extreme favoritism and ppl who are favored are allowed to get away with murder while others are written up for the smallest thing. The Group Leads and the manager are all best friends who fraternize heavily outside of work so if one of the leads doesn't feel like doing as assigned duty it doesn't get done, or an associate is forced to do it. The leads are lazy also sit around and gossip openly about the associates, from sharing the associates' sensitive personal information to loudly voicing their opinion on who they like best. Training is a joke because the leads are only in their position due to their friendships with the boss, they barely know enough to keep their own jobs. One lead in particular actually yells and uses profanity at associates, stirs up drama and tries her best to make associates look bad to the manager. Associates have complained repeatedly to HR but nothing has been done. The ppl in leadership positions have no leadership or managerial skills, let alone ppl skills. They are incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional and try to bully employees. They also encourage associates to tell on each other, which creates an environment of throwing ppl under the bus, backstabbing and bootlicking. Benefits also suck, they are overpriced. This place is a hellhole, where careers come to die. I began searching for a new job after just 4 months is this godforsaken place. If you're desperate use it as a stepping stone to get your skills and LEAVE. I do not recommend this snake pit to anyone!

Pros

P/T shift differential (15%) brings hourly wage up to $17.50 per hour when scheduled less then 29 hours per week

Cons

Impossible to get F/T employment. Each PSC has only 1 full time person...Quest fills the busy hours with part time help and each PSC differs. P/T positions can be as little as 3 hours per day, and P/t employees are forced to work every Saturday.

Pros

The people with whom I worked. Knowing my work had meaning to other people [patients and physicians]. Good benefits and reasonable compensation. Challenging with the opportunity to grow; opportunities for promotion locally but not much between local to corporate.

Cons

In the 2000s executive management failed to move forward with operational integration and standardization between former SBCL and existing Quest Diagnostic laboratories. The grew primarily via acquisition and continued postponing integration. This situation lead to waste, redundancy and complexity that drove up operating costs. Both of these issues require a substantial amount of time to remedy and there was no willingness to invest in operations in ways that may not be immediately apparent to the bottom line. Short sighted quarter by quarter management only sustained a wasteful laboratory network in which two or more substantially sized laboratories were located within short flyable distances and in a few cases within 2-4 hours driving distance. Executives were so concerned about loosing business they allowed these redundant and expensive operations to continue rather than consolidating laboratory locations. Their greatest asset was their people but they took the easy way out of financial trouble by laying off employees for 4-5 years, gutting the organization of valuable "tribal knowledge" and loyal people many of which had worked for Quest for more than 20 years. Now they have a new, hopefully more efficient organizational structure, that eliminated my position. It is yet to be seen if new executive management will be successful. I suspect that if they are, the company will most likely be sold, filling their pockets with cash and options, while everyone else gets to cope with yet another merger in which more people with loose their jobs.
