Pros

The best reasons for woking at Quest Diagnostics UK is the people. There is a friendly, collaborative atmosphere. The people are genuinely nice. There's also a big focus on development and training, with an in-house training programme on a variety of topics, like time management, supervisory skills and stuff like that. I'd say that Quest Diagnostics has big company benefits (it's a very large US organisation of about 40,000 employees, even though it's not well-known in the UK), with small company atmosphere - you're not just a number. The company benefits are excellent and include a bonus scheme which everyone gets - it's nice to be rewarded for all the hardwork you put in.

Cons

The downsides of working at Quest Diagostics is that there is tight cost control (I would guess the management would say that's a good thing!) and the time it takes to get approval for things. Quite a lot of decisions get referred up to senior management in the U.S. and it seems to take forever to make a decision. There's a lot of documentation that needs to be done to meet the requirements of our clients (pharma companies), which can also be really frustrating and time consuming. The Heston site isn't great for transport either - there's just one bus route running past.

Pros

They were very flexible with time off. I needed more time off than I had earned, and management was extremely understanding. Of course it was unpaid. The other girls there are fantastic people. They were eager to welcome me into thier little click.

Cons

Office politics were essential for moving up. There is a lack of quality work ethic throughout the building. It is impossible to move up based on merit. You will need to brush up on your politicing before any promotions are sent your way.

Pros

It is amazing to see what it takes to get a patient sample tested and the results sent to the patient's doctor. The people working in the labs are hard working and really care about getting accurate patient test results out the door BY 8 AM THE NEXT MORNING! The company provides extensive training to its employees and has a fairly generous benefits. At the management levels, the benefits are really good. The bonus structure is very generous. The company does do a lot to celebrate the diversity of its workforce. There are usually monthly celebrations recognizing employees of every nationality with some really great food!

Cons

You have to be a type A personality to succeed here. People who are agressive and like to schmooze tend to get promoted. At the management levels, workaholics are everywhere and they tend to be rewarded. There is also a huge amount of snobbery among the managers and doctors. Med Techs are treated with little respect by managers and tend to be regarded as interchangeable pairs of hands. Communication between corporate and the business units is lousy. The result of this is that corporate initiatives are poorly executed. Management also tends to be penny wise and pound foolish. This leads to many short sighted decisions.
