Pros

The other technicians and the service writers were knowledgable, hard-working, and always willing to help out a young entry level technician. It was a great place to learn on all makes and models.

Cons

Management and their corporate structure. Learning central computer classes that flat rate employees don't get paid to do. Unfair treatment from management. Service manager was a drug addicted hot head, who is very unprofessional in reprimanding employees. Miserably low flat rate times with a pay rate that's not much better. The parts/ tire inventory was always completely wrong. Technicians are treated like scum, but are expected to work harder than anyone else in the store/ shop. Instead of fixing flush machines and doing proper work, management just advises that you suck the fluid out of the reservoir or do a drain and fill to make the customer think the work was actually done. Hiring service managers with less automotive experience than a general service technician. Awful benefits and weird customer service tactics like "the road ahead" and "the successful failure log." What does that crap even mean?! These things are supposed to aid in customer service but are counterproductive and time consuming. The service desk always looks like a war zone of angry customers, crumpled up work orders, and random car keys. No wonder the bays are always empty with ten techs standing around doing nothing, making beat paychecks every two weeks that look like they should be your pay for one. Then they wonder why all the techs are unhappy with their jobs. It's pretty sad what's happening there because there are a lot of good techs in that store, but they don't care because they are underpaid and treated like absolute trash. This seems to be the story of every Pep Boys, not just the one I worked at. I'm glad I'm out of there, I made more money at 16 years old as a gas station attendant, and more as a GST when I started with pep boys than I did when I got "promoted" to a b-tech. That place was a joke. I have way more potential than anything that place could have offered me. I'm glad I just upped and walked out of there one day, best decision I ever made. Good bye and good riddance. Manny, Moe, and Jack should be brought up on charges for paying people under minimum wage the commission there is pretty much nothing.

Pros

They provide opportunities to learn and train in order to move up in the company. They encourage higher education.

Cons

The class of customers are sometimes a pain to deal with but every retail environment has thus issue.
