Pros

In truth, I love my job. I love the interactions I have with various staff, patients and visitors. (Currently in health care). I go to and leave work typically in a good mood, and if not, at least satisfied. The good though seems to come almost exclusively from external sources. Not from the company itself. In point form the pros are... - Steady work schedule. - Typically quick response from our Ops center. - No shortage of shifts ... Which also becomes a con. - Paid training. - Assisting in getting security license. There could be more I am not able to think of at this moment.

Cons

The wage I am currently making is not livable. I joined this company as a stepping stone in my career path, and in truth have to stick it out until I can take the next step. However, the only way I currently even exist is by the good will of friends and family. If I miss a day of work for any reason, it's catastrophic. For the point format. - Smoke blowing. Shown a chance for advancement, then simply disregarded. In an attempt to keep me interested. - Borderline harassment level of phone calls to take extra shifts, even if just getting off a shift. - If a shift cannot be taken by staff, then guilt tripping and other manipulations to attempt to coerce a change in decision. quote " Well another officer is doing 7-12's in a row." As a direct comparison. As if I don't do enough because I am unable to make up for another guard. - Denied any form of pay wage increase to maintain "Paladins bottom line". Heavens know they can't sacrifice a dollar or two an hour... ever. - No amount of reasoning is good enough to not make up for another officers shift. Dying family included. - Honestly. I feel like a gap fill. So long as I am at my post, that's all they care about. Not the fact that I constantly try to go above and beyond our company standards. That I maintain good and professional relations with other staff. That because I can't take every single missing shift onto myself that I am not remotely appreciated for the things I do exceptionally well.

Pros

If you are lucky to work at one of the high-paying sites, the wages are among the tops of any contracted security company. Most sites I have worked at, there is a great sense of community and family amongst the guards (and in many cases, their team leaders as well). That unfortunately does not happen between management and the guards. If you are looking to get into law enforcement, CBSA, corrections, etc, working in the hospital environments is one of the best suggestions I can give.

Cons

If you are at a site where leadership (management) is not well qualified to perform their jobs, they rely on fear of reprimands and firing to keep their staff in line. This will never lead to a motivated and effective work force. Paladin pays their guards drastically different wages depending on the site. You can be at one high-profile (and high-risk) site, and only be earning (approx.) $11-$12/hr, while work at other sites where you can be earning upwards of $14.50, for doing the same work. What motivation is there for a guard to work hard, when they know their own peers are earning more per hour for doing the same, or possibly less, work as they are?

Pros

The best reasons to work as a security officer with paladin is simply because of the experience you get from it but it sure does come at a cost. If you're using this as a stepping stone into policing sure it will help experience wise but have only little impact on your resume. Another pro is you get to meet other security officers and have a chance at making some great new friends. Being a security guard is not such easy work as one might think you have to put up with a lot and Paladin trains you very well when you join them. There HR department at Toronto seem like a fun group of people who are going to be there for you when you are newly hired.

Cons

Poorly run operations centre is one of the biggest flaws paladin suffers from. I used to work at the Toronto branch and the people they have manning the phones at operations are quiet nasty. They give you a really hard time for booking off shifts even if its for future dates. If your sick be prepared to still go in for your shift because Operations is really bad at doing there job and getting another officer out there. The operations staff will call you countless times to fill you in for shifts but when you are in need of assistance don't expect anything. Overall if you are like most people who put there family first I wouldn't completely recommend but that is just my experience. At most the only thing they can tell you to do is if you have problems contact your CSM but that's not going to help one bit. Paladin is a professional security company who strive to please there clients at the expense of there own security guards.
