Pros

Salary, Opportunity to watch Sport, free Taxis. Occasionally some Light hearted banter between colleagues.

Cons

This company is run by complete thugs. Training is barely provided which is dangerous and cavalliar given the consequences of inaccuracies and minor errors.. Shifting the blame is common place. Performance issues and differences of Opinion. are resolved unprofessionally by Witch Hunts, Character Assassinations and Passive aggressive behaviour. People you work with expect perfection from you but no effort is forthcoming in the other direction. Misuse of disciplinary procedures to hound people out.

Pros

- Rota Flexibility - Tips from customers at times - Able to watch Sky Sports & BT Sports as part of your job - Overtime available 95% of the time - Able to develop good friendships with customers due to daily shop visits - They do a decent Christmas Party

Cons

- Forced into working overtime against your will - Huge numbers of unreliable/incompetent staff are employed - Erratic customers most days of the week (weekly verbal abuse and physical damage to shop) - Huge amount of staff gossip/staff politics - A 'Not Bothered' attitude by many Senior Managers to lower ranking staff - Hours can be long (14/15 hour shifts with minimal breaks is common when managing) - Terrible rota management, with your shifts being changed without being notified - Managers not allowed to freely manage their own store and staff - Minimal staff protection against criminals and offenders - Mentally draining atmosphere - Not much space for company progression unless your face fits the agenda - Dog eat dog working style between staff - Terrible staff turnover numbers - Working laws broken every day with staff break/lunch timings - Being made to work completely alone at times for indefinite periods, sometimes all day - Great work is not praised let alone rewarded - Working in a 'bribe the poor and feed the rich' environment - Can easily get robbed due to nature of industry and small staff numbers during shifts - Depressing and Mentally straining working atmosphere - No focus on negative mental effects the job may leave (from abuse, robberies, threats, etc) THE LIST GOES ON. IF YOU DO NOT FEEL ANY 10 OF THESE POINTS, YOU HAVE NOT WORKED FOR PADDY POWER

Pros

Most work colleagues were professional and friendly.

Cons

Had a nice feel in the beginning before the move to Clonskeagh. The company quickly grew and the culture inevitably disappeared. When companies get larger it all becomes about cost saving anyway. Jobs are now being exported to cheaper countries like Bulgaria where the salaries are a fraction of those in Dublin. I guess it inevitably lost the startup feel and the love affair was soon over. In general way too much politics. Meetings about meetings meant you had less time to do actual work and be productive. Blame games are commonplace. Gradually most of the smart people started to leave and took their many years of priceless knowledge with them. Lots of new hires do not have the required experience or skills to do their job. Business analysts have little or no knowledge of the products they are assigned. New features are often just poached off other sites so there is no real innovation. Everything was business lead so developers were not trusted to make technology decisions. Paddy power staff are generally packed tightly into large rooms. Personal space is a premium and the noise level is unbearable at times. Lack of parking is a major problem at the facility and exiting the park in the evenings is unbearable to say the least. Canteen food is expensive and not subsidised enough compared to other major IT companies. The canteen also became the largest meeting room in the building due to the lack of space.
