Pros

I was a Product Marketing Specialist at Old Navy. When i went in for my interview the job sounded great, and i felt like i could succeed in the position. I was only there about a month, and realized quickly the job had a lot of tasks and responsibilities that i was unaware of! I was told i would be leading a team and running the truck on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I quickly found out that instead of leading a team, and jumping in to help when one of my team members has fallen behind, that i too would be busy processing shipment for hours while expected to keep an eye on my team and keep them on task . Not what i expected at all. The job sounded great, but for the task heavy position it just does not pay enough, nor does this position get any benefits because its only a part time position.

Cons

This company seems to be very unorganized. I was told I would have a team on shipment and never had a core team, therefor how could I build team morale or how could we become a team if i wasn't working with the same people every time. They had to pull other specialist and workers from there normal positions on Tuesdays and Thursdays to process shipment. I believe i could've done well in this position if i was given the tools and man hours to do so. I learned quickly that, that will never happen. Corporate seems to think things should and can be done in an unreasonable amount of time. We were always over budget on our hours, and the first hours to be cut were from shipment. This job should be a full time position with benefits!

A great part time job, not a great career.

Pros

For a part time associate, being a brand associate teaches you to work in a fast paced environment. Stores with long standing brand associates have a great environment to grow in. Good employee discount. Some upper managers are a pleasure to work with.

Cons

Full time managers are given job duties to complete in time frames that are not consistent to the pace of the retail environment. 20+ hours a week are dedicated to being on the sales floor for the customer, and the other 20 are divided among 40+ hours of job specific requirements to be done, resulting in processes not being completed and management left being told they are failing. General Managers work 70+ hours a week with little extra benefits leading to terrible work and personal life balance, lower managers only have the benefit of not being required to work off the clock to protect some of their life balance. Constantly being talked down to about not signing up enough customers on credit cards or capturing enough e-mails, is morally destructive and leads to all associates feeling inadequate and defeated. Stores are constantly understaffed, however are told they are over spending hours and are continuously cutting staff due to low sales.

Pros

Company is great, employee discount was great! Good employees if trained correctly. Recognition from Corporate was almost good. Customers enjoy the brand!

Cons

Upper management within the store in all locations are a joke. They never work, they depend on the lower management and the associates to prepare for Corporate visits but General Managers take all of the credit. Treated like crap when you were leaving to better yourself.
